Want to Fight a Speed Ticket. Need some help.
I just got pinched this afternoon on Hwy 6 in Guelph for 37 over (117 in an 80). I was going with the flow of the guy next to me, and happened to be on the inside lane where they were trapping. I got a nice $277 fine and some points. Cop didn't budge on the ticket, and seemed to be having a bad day
I want to fight this ticket. If nothing else, to get the points dropped. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this? Do I go to one of those X-Copper places, or should I try to do this on my own?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you dont have time to apply for a trial, or even go to the trial for that matter it's best to hire a prosecutor in your defence (like x-copper, or any traffic ticket lawyer). IMO for a ticket like this I would recommend seeing a lawyer.

For the record however, it's unlikely the crown will be willing to lower the speed to the 15 over that would be required to totally eliminate any points in this case. The best you're likely to get on an offer, unless the crown has an extremely weak case, is 29 over which is a 3-point conviction.
You can make an appointment with the prosecutor who can negotiate on the charge - he is the only person with the authority to do this. Remember, the justice of the peace cannot alter the charge, and the points are prescribed based on the charge. All the JP can do is lower the fine. If you're convicted of or plead guilty to 37 over, 4 points will be registered on your record, regardless of any leniency the JP shows regarding the fine.
Any questions, please let me know.
