Saying hello, And my story.
Hey guys, Im glad to join the boards and have come here to ask some questions regarding what my future around cars in Ontario is going to be.
We start once upon a time in summer June 2007 night......
I was on the 400 S going to the 401 when a guy in a integera eggs me on.....So i go what the hey(I just turned 18 then so i was pretty stupid) and go for it for a bit and slow down due to traffic. I lay off but buddy still seems excited...We both go 401 E and hes behind me on the on-ramp and right up my *** so what do i do since im stupid...go faster. I tear down the ramp and head towards the "basketweave" express lanes which is a sorta tricky sharp left. I realize what im doing is stupid and move move over to let him pass where he rips though maybe doing 160 (we were both around 140). I still go into the turn way too hot and spin and BAM! into the guard rail. I freak out like crazy and buddy speeds away never to be seen again. I hear sirens in the back ground and the tow truck is the first to show up, followed by the OPP. in a nutshell he says there were people that called me and that car in and that i "fit the discription" and i get charged with dangerous drving( a criminal charge, this was before 50over was ever made/passed)
Fast foward 15 months to September 2008.
I got a lawer the same week that i got charged and after he had received the discloser he laughed and said there was not enough proof to find me guilty, He had also asked if id be willing to settle for a traffic violation vs criminal charges (worst case) and i said yeah. So we go to court finally in September and NO WITNESSES shows up, only the bitch crown attourney and the cop that showed up on the scene....They give you the usual court BS and take like 20 breaks in a hour and then during the break my lawyer tells me they are "missing documents" and are willing to bargin. I say cool? So the court goes back in session and the deal is i settle for instead a 50over conviction+the 2k fine+ 9months probation = no driving at all during those months unless its strictly work related - driving to and from does not count. My lawyer keeps telling this a really good deal and that i should go for it...i ask my dad that was with me and he gave me the look like "this is bullshit but its best" so i agree. So i get convicted and here i am now.....i still got about 4 months to go before im legit again. It sucks but i guess i learned my lesson though i think i got ripped big time.
ANY HOW....I wanted to know if there anybody else that was convicted of this and how much their premiums raised - i know ppl say oh it will go up this much but i want to know some solid numbers so i can see what im looking at when i go to re-insure my car.
My record is CLEAN except for this mishap.
Also if there were any insurance companies/brokers you would recommend i call If you could forward me their contact info that would be sweet.
thanks

I had a similar thing happen. I had a dangerous drving charge that was dropped to careless with suspension but no points... what you don't want to hear is my premium went up a year later to 849 per month for straight liability...... long story short I sold my car, now 7 years later its all gone but for at least 4 years I was screwed. Hope your story ends better then mine.

Sounds like you are kinda ****ed man, still under 25 with a mark like that on the record. But you could at least shop around a bit and test the waters. A buddy of mine who had a couple of bad tickets including a 50 over (before street racing law) could not drive for a while since it was really high, I think it took 2 years before he could be insured again for a reasonable amount. Mind you he is 28 .. so the insurance companies look at you different.
