go to jail for 5 years and think about what you have done .....but seriously if you do fight and win your insurance is still gonna be 15000 a year ...but get a lawyer its all you can do if you want a chance of winning

Dont get a paralegal...
He got busted for DUI, a major charge, its going to be an uphill battle.
What other advise is there to give? Dont walk on slippery ice?
Anyways, thanks to contributing to the thread with a useless post

Mandatory 12 month suspension for impaired. You can try a lawyer, but there's not much he can do as far as I know. You're gonna have to pay, and it looks good on you.
Actually, 15 months if you include the mandatory 90-day administrative license suspension that takes effect the minute you're charged.
What should he do? May as well have another drink, because he won't be driving for at least 90 days.
Lawyer is a good bet too unless he wants to just plead guilty. If he wants to go to trial, odds are not good at getting off on the charge if they did an Intoxilyzer test at the station, and they always do a couple of those.
One piece of advice - do NOT go and drive anyways.
If you get caught, the car you are driving will be impounded for a minimum of 45 days and you are on the hook for towing and storage costs. It doesn't even matter if the car belongs to someone else, your mom's, friend's, brother's, even if it's a rental car, it will be impounded and locked up for 45 days. Oh yeah, and you'll get to face even more charges and longer license suspension as part of the deal, plus if in an accident, any insurance on the car will be void.

Well, people make mistakes, but its a pretty serious one at that.
I mean, how many of us know NOT to drink and drive... its not worth it.
Get a lawyer, pay the bucks and hope you get off and chalk it up to a life lesson.
Good luck

You didn't say how you got caught, whether by roadside check or by being involved in an accident, or at what level your BAC reading was at.
BUT, aside from the one year license suspension and hefty fine that follows conviction, plus the hefty 100% insurance surcharge that will follow you for 5 to 7 years following conviction, you are looking at a criminal record.
That criminal record can dog you for the rest of your life. It can make certain careers out of bounds for you. It can keep you from travelling to certain countries, including the United States.
Your only option is to try and fight the charge and hope you get off.
As much as I want impaired drivers off the road, I figure the experience of this, even if you do get off, will probably work to keep you sober behind the wheel in future. That, the 90-day administrative suspension you'll have to serve out in any case, plus a few thousand in lawyers fees, will be plenty of punishment even without the added punishment of a criminal record and one year suspension on conviction.
