Modified car and insurance claims

Would in any case the insurance company not pay you money if your car was lowered and totaled? If they say they won't pay you because the car was modified, what agreements is there?

What I did to CMA, was have the car appraised, when it was done. Then, you can have the appraisal slip given to the insurance, so that they know what was done. As long as the mods done to the car are legal, and the car will pass safety, there's nothing they can do, but pay up.

I assume they would jack up your insurance rate if your car is boosted or sprayed?

I don't even think they'd touch it if you have spray

OH yeah. I had mine registered to race, and street driven, and well, $250/month, all summer. As for spray, yeah, good luck. As far as I know, you can't have it hooked up on the street anyway, and if they found out, they'd likely cancel the policy. Maybe someone on here can clear this up, I've only done turbo, no spray.

See that's what I heard about spray... that they'd cancel your insurance policy.
I don't see the logic. It's not a full time power adder.

I think their issue is with the bottle, not the power adder.

I also vaguely remember that you had to have stickers or something saying you're transporting the Nitrous....... and something else I really can't remember. It would be nice to find out the legality of having a nitrous setup in a car (even with the bottle disconnected).

There's a thread somewhere about nitrous bottles, I can't remember where. I think I'll stick with turbo. Less hassles.

Wouldn't the MTO still hassle you if you have something like a SAFC or Megasquirt? or even if you just reprogram the cars original ECU...

I got pulled over by the MTO I think it was June last year. They didn't say anything about the cage, seat belts, turbo, IC, or anything. They were just checking the body, and to make sure emissions equipment was there. LOL, 1984 rabbit had no emissions, aside from the charcoal canister. They even crawled under the car, to check the exhaust out, and tried to ream me for no cat, but I had kept the underneath of the hood stock, and it still had the VW sticker saying what the car had been equiped with. Basically, you should be OK, as long as the emissions equipment is there, as far as the MTO is concerned. As for Megasquirt, or other standalones, I don't think they would be able to recognize it. I know the MS looks way different than stock, and neater too, but if the guy doesn't know the cars, he may not recognize it. Personally, I wouldn't use nitrous on a car I was going to drive on the street. Just CYA. If I build a track car, which I am debating on doing with the car I trying to sell, that will be a nitrous 2l 16v. Easier to build.
