Insurance Price raising??

So last night i got pulled over for going 110 in an 80 and the officer was being very generous and dropped the ticket down to 95 in an 80, thus not taking any demerit points away. Will my insurance costs go up because of this or does it depend on if you lose demerit points.
Thanks, Sean

maybe the mods should make a sticky of typical questions and answers, because there seems to be a lot of repeat questions in this section.

but to answer your question ... will your insurance go up? yes and no. it doesn't matter whether your speeding ticket (or any other ticket for that matter) has demerit points involved. ANY moving violation is considered a reason for insurance companies to raise your rates.

however, SOME companies may absorb your first ticket if you've had a long history with them and had a clean record. but the majority of insurance companies probably won't, so if you get convicted of this 15 over charge, expect a raise in your rates.

oh, i'm guessing you're going to ask more typical questions after, so i'll try to answer them now.

1. "my ticket was reduced, should i still fight it? (worries about court reinstating the original speed)"

- i don't know much about this, but according to gldwngr who seems to have some competent information, the court can reinstate the original speed, so deciding to fight this ticket could have negative results.

2. "should i hire a company like xcopper/points/etc. to represent me?"

- i've used xcopper before and they're GARBAGE. sorry, but they don't do s*it and charge $350 for pretty much showing up and settling with the crown with the most easy deal they can get. i could have done that and not spent $350.

my best advice is if you're going to hire a company like xcopper, do some shopping around. don't settle with the first company you have a consultation with. since most have free consultations, take the time to go around to a whole lot and see what they can do for you, and if they promise something get it in writing.

Regarding this whole issue, I don't know of this ever happening to anyone I know, nor have I ever witnessed it happening in court. But, I don't hang around courthouses much either.

I was nailed at 39 over the limit. York Region cop ticketed me for 20 over, and yes, there was the special "R 39" code written on the ticket.

I decided to fight the ticket anyway. I requested a trial date and went to court. Now, in the courtroom, the crown has a sheet of peoples' names and their charges and other information, but what's written on this paper is what you're charged with, not any other secret codes or other info relating to what happened, as far as I could tell. Just that I was charged with speeding 20 over.

I haggled a bit and the crown offered a plea bargain of 15 over, $40 fine and no licence demerit points. I took the deal.
