Fantino needs to be impeached!
....Or whatever we do in Canada... Politely ask him to step down?
What a .

Julian Fantino, the seemingly authoritarian commissioner of Ontario's provincial police force has proposed new legislation that would lead to officers handing out tickets to anyone who puts their car into a ditch during a snowstorm. Ontario — Canada's most populous province — recently introduced legislation to impound for a week the vehicle of anyone caught driving 31 mph over the speed limit.
Fantino also recently said he supports lowering the impoundment threshold from 31 mph (50 km/h) to 18 mph (30 km/h). That would mean anyone caught traveling 18 mph over the speed limit would have their car seized on the spot for a week and face a fine of $2,000 to $10,000 for stunt driving. So far, Canadian lawmakers seem satisfied with the 31 mph directive.
The ditch ticket proposal might irk average drivers even more. Fantino said he thinks anyone whose car slides off the highway in bad weather should be fined, even if there is no evidence of careless driving or excessive speed.

I think he needs a swift kick to the jaw. What a ****** pig. I cant even believe they are doing this. Ontario had a surplus of 2 billion dollars last year, why the hell do they need more money.

Dare I say, I think it's a great idea.
There is no excuse for ditching your car in a snow storm. If you lack the ability to control your vehicle in those conditions, you shouldn't be on the road.
If people are honest with themselves, they know what is within their abilities and what is not. If legislature like this were introduced, it would serve as a good deterrent for those who are unable to make the decision to drive based on common sense alone.
As for the speeding - There really is no reason to drive 130 km/h. In fact, I'd suggest that the only reason people do drive that speed is because they're afraid of what will happen if they're caught at 150km/h+.
What people need most is to learn how to plan ahead and leave earlier. The time savings of traveling 30km/h faster are nominal.
I say bring it on.

ROFL you are a douche, can you justify speed limits, doubt it, a law without basis is no law at all. F* Fantino, he would have been great in **** Germany
As for the ditches, who cares, what will the fine achieve except profit for the establishment, I say getting in the ditch is fine enough cuz you gotta pay big bucks for towing repairs etc... I have never been in this situation but came close, and if it had happened to me id hate to get a ticket on top of it when no harm was done... but meh that ticket I suppose I could live with, but F fantino anyway, and F traffic cops, and F the greedy ignorant government, and F the whiny SOBs who cry havoc over traffic conditions yet are ignorant of absolutely every aspect of it.

Where once a motorist would call for police assistance when they've had the misfortune of ditching their car, now the race will be on to the nearest farmer (with tractor) for assistance. Eventually, the general public will fear the OPP the way "enthusiastic" drivers currently do.
Fantino has no interest in serving the general population. He has no concept of what it's like trying to scratch out an honest living in this province. He earns $250,000 a year and appears to have absolutely no regard for the average Joe living paycheque to paycheque. He has targeted the masses on our roads and McGuinty is dropping to his knees and kissing his boots because of all the ticket money that's rolling in. One day, we will vote in a government that understands their responsibility to protect the common citizen from a cold hearted, heavy handed, militant cop like Fantino. In the mean time, we all have to survive another 18 months or so under this oppressive regime.
Every "stunt" as defined in 203 already had statutes covering them. But the fines just weren't adding enough to our cash-strapped government, I guess.
What Fantino doesn't realize is that there is a certain price we pay for living in a free Country which is heavily defendant on the automobile. I doubt VERY MUCH that any of his brutal initiatives will noticeably reduce accident rates on our roads. But we will be forever stuck with them because once the money starts rolling in, it would be pretty tough for any politician to ignore and step back to a more citizen-friendly platform.
The word is out in the States to avoid Ontario due to all its "wishy-washy" stunt laws that'll get you car impounded. Heck, most Ontarians don't know all the specifics of Bill 203, let alone an American tourist. This could be disastrous for tourism-based municipalities like mine.

A compelling argument.
Don't worry - maybe you'll understand when you're older. I wouldn't expect a kid to understand this concept.

easy solutions.. make all cars like kiddie cars at a theme park. all goverened and all rails.
no ditch, no speeding, all safe.
But then that means there's no cash grab for the cops or an easy day.
This is certainly not safety driven.. this is money hungry ****'s stickin it to the commoners

Ontario is already hurting in the tourist area aspect - not just cuz of Bill 203 but cuz our dollar is so strong (so Americans are less likely to come here), coupled with Torontos crazy dead stop traffic, add in the sky rocketing Toronto taxes for entertainment, the "dont know when its working TTC + Go Trains, union strikes, parking, etc...
I can understand (not necessarily agree with) the 30 over thing BUT if it were only applied to the busiest parts of the 401 and such. Most of the freeways in Ontario outside of major metros are dead. EX:- when I travell anywhere 2 hours north of Toronto - I see a car on the same road as me maybe every 5mins. Theres just no one to hit or hurt but yerself and any passengers with you.
So with bill 203, how many actual real street races have they caught? A couple maybe (I really dont know)
Side Story of a family members frinds friend - a mother driving on the 401 in the left most lane doing not more than 130, big black SUV gets on her azz so close she cant even see its headlights, she gets scared and moves over a line, SUV changes lanes and is on her azz again, she changed 3 more lanes trying to lose this guy, she was terrified at this point (it was late night out), she wanted to call the cops but then she saw an exit and took it, SUV followed still literally on her bumper, she was scarred to *****. SUV pulls up next to her and rolls down window, she thought she was about to be shot, driver motions to pull over and identifies himself as a cop. He yells at her for like 10 mins, shes scarred silent and doesnt even make a peep until he tells her he's seizing her car, taking her licence, etc... and charging her with speeding at 180+Kms. Thats when she finally spoke saying theres no way she was going that fast, maximum 130Kms she said to him. Well apparently he freacked out that she had the gull to say that and almost ripped her from her car. All she asked for was that she could get her baby seat cuz she was on her way to her moms to get her child and needed it so legally she could put it in her moms car so her mom could drive them both home. Car was towed away and cop left her on the side of the ramp. Tow truck dude gave her a lift. Then tow truck dude tells her shes fukked cuz he told her that he heard all over the radi that this cop was bragging about how he's gonna nail her *** and make it stick. Well the cop might be fukked cuz she knows someone who works at COMPASS or gets to see all the freeway cameras and they are now looking for a copy of the camera tapes that prove her innocence (in regards to doing 180+). If they find it, you can bet she will sue the cop, the city, the force and maybe the govnt.
