Can Somebody Find Me A Front Plate Law From The Highway Traffic Act
ok... I swear I've gotten a ticket before that read that under the highway traffic act the plate must be "clearly visible from the front of the vehicle".
Others say the front-most part of the vehicle.
I was searching the highway traffic act I can't find the plate laws... Anybody have an excerpt from it?

I found this on this site
http://www.canlii.org/on/laws/regu/1...211/whole.html
Number Plates
(3) The number plates for a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle or a motor assisted bicycle, shall be attached to and exposed in a conspicuous (Easy to notice; obvious) position on the front and rear of the motor vehicle. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 628, s. 9 (3).
Then i found this in the HTA
7. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless,
(b) there are displayed on the vehicle, in the prescribed manner,
(i) number plates issued in accordance with the regulations showing the number of the permit issued for the vehicle,
So basically the numbers have to be seen, so all the officer has to say is he didn't see the numbers, whereas if it was affixed to the front bumper it should be easily seen

dude you're awesome.
yeah that's what the law says.
i have my plate attached like this
It is in an inconspicious area, on the front of the vehicle. Furthermore, it is attached to the windshield with industrial velcro which can withhold a good 100-200 lbs of force... which means in an accident it will not cut off my head.
I'm ready for court

Benefit of having 2 plates is if you are involved in a hit and run and the person backs up you can see their plate...also the front plate when on a vehicle properly at night reflects very well, hence if your vehicle is stolen, the police can read the front plate of a vehicle coming towards them, especially in residential areas where the speeds are slower. Would not make sense to keep turning around a cruiser to check every vehicle that was similiar in nature to your stolen vehicle only to learn it wasn't the right one.
RE: Picture of "clutchin" can this plate be reflected at night? Then this would not be "exposed in a conspicuous position on the front" on the motor vehicle.
Again, this photo was taken in an unnatural viewing position (good if the JP doesn't figure it out) What about a photo 3-4 feet from the ground as if sitting in a cruiser 50 feet in front of your vehicle, now can it be reflected and read at night?? just curious?
It's all on interpretation

What about trip permits? They are glued to the front windsheild. You can argue that if it is legal to have a trip permit on your windshield what difference would it make if it's a license plate?
You can try that argument

A trip permit is not technically a licence plate . Its made out of paper so its gotta go on the inside , so it wont get wet or stolen .
The lawbooks say clearly viewed from the front , but you get a cop , he can stand off to one side a bit . And if your plate is like in a lower grille opening , or between 2 bumperettes and he cant see ( by his definition) the first or last digit . He can give you a ticket .
I got a plate ticket by an OPP ***** on my 1969 triumph , cause it was bolted on upside down. It was clearly valid . We even took pics of the incident .It was a saturday after noon , I had just picked the bike up from a shop I took it to , to get a second opinion on a funky vibration over 80 mph. While it was in the shop another bike fell over against it and ripped the plate off . Ifigured well the holes are ripped out and we gotta go on a tour so I,ll just put the plate on upside down, using the good bottom holes and I,ll get a new plate on the following monday .
1 hr on the side of the road a ticket for the plate , ( which I beat in court ) and he checked the serial , engine , ins numbers on each of the 4 other bikes . ..77.

Went to fight one of these, had pictures of where it was and all, justice of the peace was some baggy old woman, who kept saying "theres no excuse, I don't care, I won't reduce the charges". Cop didn't show, so I walked and smiled as I walked by her.

I havent had a front plate on my car for 3 years. Even been pulled over for speeding 2wice (once was actually racing but I was so ahead of the other guy the cop didnt think of it). I gotta get one on there tho...so ugly it sucks. I seen a Viper a couple weeks ago and the plate was bent over the piece in thr lower grille opening just showing the numbers. That to me is just heat score. and putting them on the dash.
