Can I get off on this 85 in a 50 ticket radar...
Yeah I was driving up to guelph to play some paintball... Not in my area... my buddy in the car who lives their told me to boot it. So I did, and a cop walked out.
He said he caught me going 85 in a 50... Went and immediately wrote me up a ticket.
When he came back, I asked to see the radar. He said sure. He directed me to the radar and started telling me how it worked.
I told him "I do not wish to know how the radar works, I am well aware of how it works. I wish to see the speed you caught me at."
Then he told me that he no longer had the speed he caught me at in the system. I asked him if I could get that written on my ticket that he did not show me the speed he said he supposedly caught me at, and he said "you're one argumentative er aren't you? maybe i should write you a ticket for you not having your front plate on securely too?"
then he gives me a 2 minute speech about how he doesn't have to even show me the radar by law. The radar was freestanding, not in his car... set-up on a tripod. I think that since he couldn't show me a speed, there is no evidence and I can get off in court?
Any comments welcome.

Unfortunately in court it's your word against his. Make sure you make note of EVERYTHING that happened (how he spoke, what he said, etc.) and if you're going to fight it..get ready for a long haul in court. Guelph, like London and other conservative towns like to drag you through the mud to get some sort of judgement eventually.
I just went through it in London, I was setup for another adjournment, but then we reached a deal with the prosecutor sitting in and we don't have to make another trip. Thank god.

Cop doesnt have to show you laser/radar reading, due to "safety reason".
It's always best to save the arguing for your court day. If you argue at the scene, generally the officer will remember you....
Good luck!

Generally if it is on a tripod it would be laser. As posted above, there is no "legality" to show any reading what so-ever.
Why would seeing the alledged reading make a difference anyway??? If you think you were not travelling that fast, you are going to alledge it's another vehicle anyway??
Good picture on how your plate is displayed...how many people look down from a porch to see a plate? Try standing 50 feet in front of your vehicle at a typical height of 3-4 feet (as if sitting in another car, like an officer would be) and take the picture.....wondering...can it easily be seen along with the angle of your windshield with no confusion at all??
