2 Tickets, 1 cop....dammit man!
Many things could have been done differently this morning but the one I chose is costing me big time. If my girl had gone with my idea and taken the subway instead of me picking her up it wouldn't have happened. If I took my usual daily driver instead of driving the other car cuz my girl wanted me to drive the other car it wouldn't have happened. If I slowed down, sped up, took a different route, not take my gears through their paces, it wouldn't have happened. But...it did. So Im driving south on midland in scarborough and I just turned off of a side street. In usual fashion I was getting up to speed quickly so I took first gear into vtec range and I got to the lights at midland and huntingwood. I made a right on huntingwood and a good 60 feet on huntingwood I sto for traffic and I see a cop car comin up the shoulder. I figured he was going somewhere in a hurry. He got behind me eventually and turned ion his lights and siren so I pulled over assuming he wanted to go by but...I got pulled over. So the cop walk up to the car and doesn't ask the usual.."Do you know why I pulled you over?"..he went straight into the charges...he was being nice about it though...so he said my exhaust is too loud for Ontario and it is an improper muffler for Ontario. He claimed it's a straight through muffler and it resonates because of that. It should have a baffled system...I didn't argue but he never once looked at my exhaust up close and the noise thing can be purely judgemental because while there is a law that you can't exceed a certain amount of decibels, how does he know you exceeded the limit???
SO I got 2 tickets, $110 each and he said if I take it to court and have a picture and reciept for changing the muffler, he'll drop the charges...???
Can he just do drop the charges? Anyone knows which court house Ill have to report to? Anyone know offhand the actual decibel limit on muffler sound?
No words for the cop...they gotta hand out tickets so whatever. I'm gonna fight 'em..Gotta go get my muffler specs now..man..any ideas on fighting the noise charge?
Thanks guys.

No HE can't just drop the charges, what he CAN do is talk to the prosecutor, or not stand up when he's called, or walk out the court room, (lil tricks they have), etc...
There is NO such thing as an illegal muffler for Ontario (as far as I know) unless it's rusted so bad it's a danger to traffic. You could stick bowling ball into the openning of one and get nada - there is no law in any legal books about it - in court ask the cop to show you and the court where it says that. He could however charge you with something relating to it - like yer noise tix
what are the specific charges / codes on yer tix?
noise is just a matter of opinion unless he used a DB meter

Just wondering, was it Officer Mackey?
I got pulled over by the guy at Brimley and Sheppard.
$110 for excessive noise...
Had my mechanic install a silencer, and write me up an invoice...
I went to court to fight it.
They dropped the charges.
At the end he said to me, “If I ever see you again with that car, and the muffler does not have a silencer installed, I'll tow it away on the spot.”

The exact codes and charges are.
"Unnecessary noice" - contrary to HTA sect. 75(4)
Improper muffler - motor vehicle - contrary to HTA sect. 75(1)
What he said was that the muffler was a straight through muffler because it was "circular" so did not have a baffle chamber...umm...cuz it's circular?
He suggested getting an OEM exhaust. I told him that's what I got the car with which is true but of course they never believe you unless they will benefit from what you say, such as yeh number 3 is the guy who did it.
I guess he really wanted to ticket the out of me cuz 75(1) covers the issue of noise as well. Although it says unusual noise and 75(4) says unnecessary noise. Man I love politics....and cops
P.S. no it was not officer Mackey. He was officer Kim. Seems like a nice guy with a mind numbing uniform. He did fcukin make me get to class late though. However he was faster than most cops in Ontario.
