152km/h in 80km/h zone - court summon

hey guys, I got a court summon for 152 in 80 zone. I was travelling southbound on highway 6 in Guelph, and a cop on the side of the highway with a tripod radar waved me down. I stopped and he gave me this summon and said he clocked me doing 152.

I plan to get a lawyer from those traffic ticket places; however, my court date is next Tuesday. As far as I understand, that date is for me to go into court and tell the judge how I want to go about this offense and set up an actual court date.

My problem is this: I don't have the money to pay for a lawyer right now. So I plan to go in court myself on Tuesday and get enough money to pay for a lawyer for my later court dates. What should I say to the judge? Is it "meeting of resolution"? Will it be too late to get a lawyer later?

Really? I thought it's just a day that further arrangement will be made regarding the case.

thats not as bad as it looks, all you do is come in and they assign an actual court date if you are not ready. just talk to the crown 15 minutes before court starts and ask for some time to find a lawyer. And best thing to do is tell them ur sorry and they will give you some slack cut down on the ticket, basically thats what you lawyer is going to do. But before you do anything, check on the ticket mistakes such as name spelling, dates, license plate, and so on. ANOTHER THING THAT WOULD HELP YOU, IS GET SOME LICENCED MECHANIC THAT CAN ISSUE SAFETY, TO WRITE A LETTER THAT YOU CAR HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND YOU SPEEDOMETER IS OFF BY LIKE 35 KM/H.

^ I doubt a mechanic would want to risk losing his license just so he could get out of a ticket where he was clearly at fault.

LoL, sounds like a good idea to get a mechanic to say my speedo isn't working properly. However, will that just help? or will it help A LOT?

That speedo idea is HORRIBLE.

The cop has you on RADAR.

By your speedo story, it is saying that you are not able to judge your own speed, thus traveled almost DOUBLE the speed limit not knowing that you were. That story will have your license taken away for sure...

Rediculous.

get a lawyer, because if you go in there and make a fool of yourself, you will get eatten alive. I agree with borrowing money for a lawyer. I had my share of tickets, i think i have like 6 or somehting, but once i didnt have the money to get a lawyer, and my date passed. I didnt attend court, but my lawyer was able to open the case and fight the ticket for me, which she won.

Those X-coppers are , if they get ur ticket reduced they won in their books. Find a good lawyer ask around. I have one in toronto. She works wounders for me. If you want Ill hook you up.

FIGHT THE TICKET!!

You will pay for a lawyer now, but when Insurance see the ticket and the points. Then your gonna be paying more.

Yo tell them that you go to school and your living on your own, and they your working full time everyday after school and . Its not going to make you win but it will help in your battle. Use anything that you can use. At that speed you will need it.

Just pray that you get a nice cop that isnt a ***** and that will let u go with a 100 in 80. Even that is a ticket compared that what ur in now.

Let us know how it goes...

GOOD LUCK!!

I am on my court room break right now. The prosecutor there offered to talk to the judge down to 49 over and 4 demerits. If that goes, it's pretty good considered that's what most traffic ticket places said they could do.

thats a huge ticket! get another court date and call a lawyer. if the lawyer cannot help in anyway then gettin that paper from a mechanic could ease up the points atleast. it got me out of a careless driving ticket which is 6 points to unsafe lane change which is 2 points. each case has its own twist not everything might work, it all depends on the judge and the crown attorney.

I dunno, i settled with 129 at 80km zone, the ticket is about $300 something dollars. 4 points off and no suspension. I say that's pretty good, cuz, the court is not so lenient on almost double the speed limit in guelph. I was doing 152km/h, that's 75 over.

phatgreatwall has a little shameless behaviour in the past
dont ever go 20 over in highway 6, cops are hiding everywhere on the farmlands, several times i see cars highbeaming me and the next thing i see is a cop hiding on a private house driveway, be VERY careful on that street.
