MKII MR2 N/A to Turbo swap?

Wow theres a lot of N/A MR2's floating around on the www.trader.ca webpage these days.

Just curious, Lets say u bought an MKII MR2 N/A and decided to swap the Turbo engine into the car..does it jsut drop in with no problems? I mean its the same body right?

Hopefully some1 has a good answer because im trying to convince my buddie into doing it if it doesnt cost an arm and a leg todo the swap. Considering ive seen JDM MR2 Turbo engines go for about $2-$3K.

Thanks for the help!

3rd gen j-spec 3sgte puts out about 245hp i believe. and from what my friend told me, they bolt right in.

and yes, they are both the same body.

tell your friend to go for it. i'd say its a pretty damn good swap to do. theres also the 2 gen 3sgte swap that he can do and i think it puts out about 225hp, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

and until he gets the swap done, n/a mr2's may be slow but there fun as hell to drive :thumbsup

I've heard that its a huge pain in the *** because the engine isn't the only difference in the Turbo vs. Non-Turbo car. Apparently the easiest thing to do would be to buy a rear half-cut and just swap ALL the parts on.

ya i've also heard getting a rear clip is the best idea. I myself am looking to find a 3rd gen 3sgte clip for my mr2 n/a. I'm trying to locate one in canada however i have no idea where i'd get one.

I have a 1988 celica alltrac (4wd turbo) with the 2nd gen 3sgte motor (came factory with 1st gen 3sgte). from what I know you should get the clip.. you will have to swap the wireharness, ecu, tranny.. etc.. to get the thing to work.. also I would advise you to get the 2nd gen motor over the 3rd gen.. #1 reason being more aftermarket for the 2nd gen.

Good luck.
