What is better?

I used to own a Rav 4, 1999. Traded it in for a Matrix, 2005. The Matrix is ok but definitely not as good as the Rav 4. My question is though, which is better... a Toyota Rav 4 or the Honda CRV? Just curious. Extra info: I drive about 8000 miles a year, mostly city, live in NH (typical snowy/slushy winters)

I have a CR-V, but I think these are both really fine vehicles. The CR-V seems a little more "aggressive," in the sense of having a bit more zip and slightly better handling. The RAV-4 has a more intelligently designed interior, with better ergonomics. I actually preferred the RAV-4, but when we were looking, we got a price on the CR-V that was about $1,000 less than the Toyota, so that's what we picked. If the prices were the same, we might have gone the other way. But I have to say that so far (8 months now), the CR-V has performed flawlessly. You will not be unhappy with either one. Good luck!!

You have lots of options out there. If it were me buying a 4 wheel drive car, I'd consider the Land Rover before anything and I'd look for a used one with low miles. In thinking of a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you need to ask yourself a few questions before making a final choice. What can I comfortably afford? What will give me the best value for my money and resale taken into consideration? What are my needs? What do I need to carry? Honda has a good reputation as does Toyota, you can't go wrong with either one. Test drive both and see which is better suited to YOU! I can tell you what I like but that wont help you at all.Rick

Hi there! The Matrix is just 2 years old while the Rav 4 is more than 7 years old. Mechanically the Matrix is more reliable assuming it was not involved in a major accident. Go for the Matrix but also check it's service record.
