AC Stopped Working

AC Stopped Working
Hi,
In the end of summer 2008 my AC stopped working, couple months afterwards I have taken it to the dealership. They inspected it charged me $100, and told me the compressor has a hole in it, and is not covered by warranty. I did not have time at that time to question them further. Is this possible? Purchased the car with a 5-year/100K extended warranty. Is it possible the AC was broken because it was hit by something? I feel like sending in a complaint to Nissan Canada to help me resolve the issue. Is there a way to check that it was actually hit my a rock?
Cheers,

Yes, I thought of doing that. I felt as though the receptionist was lying to me, she did not sound convincing. My gut feeling is that they do not know what it it is exactly and just want me to pay up to do a quick fix, instead of troubleshooting. But I won't know for sure until I take a look my self. Found where the compressor is in the jpg attachment. The car has apporx 60k on it, but my warranty is good till 100k. The invoice which I paid for says "hole in condenser", what am I expected to see when I inspect it myself? If it actually was hit by something it would be visible right/ If the condenser looks fine from the outside, would that mean that its leaking and should be covered under warranty? Do dealerships loose money when they have to fix vehicles on warranty?

I would start by finding this hole. Also look through your warranty and see what it says about things like this. Send an email to Nissan Canada anyways and make them aware of what they are doing. Also take it to another dealership and have them give a second opinion. Raise your voice and make a scene. That usually helps get their attention to show them your not joking around.

Thanks VWJettaMK2, good advice. was reading a bit about the condensers and they are susceptible to damage as they are mounted right on the radiator (i believe). If I do find something I think it could potentially be a diy. Then just have some refill the freon.

The only thing you have to remember is that you would need to use a machine to flush the old freon out therefore removing any contaminants like rubber or metal. Find where the hole is, if there is a hole and take it from there..
