M1 Test $17.50
Read the book, study the signs, you will have to do the car multiple choice, plus the motorcycle multiple choice, and the road signs. so that is three different tests, and will have to pass all to get your M1.
the M1 license expiries in 90 days, and you need to have it for a min. of 60 days, this is a perfect time to sign up for the M1 Exit course. if you are a beginner, been off the bike for a while. they teach you a lot of good habits, and accident avoidance etc....
M1 Exit Course, cost at Humber college was $425 tax included
the course runs on three days, thursday evening for three hourse (in-class) and sat-sun from 8:30-5:30 (on bike) when i attended there was about 90 people and over 100 bikes mostly Yamaha Virago 250 cc, and a few yamaha TTR dirt bikes, and there was TONS of instructors, we were split into groups of about 10 and each group had about 3 instructors.
There was a few people there who never touched a bike in their life, and some girls were even SCARED off the bikes, by the end of the first half of the day, they were riding with no problems and by the end fo the second day were riding very smooth with a lot of confident which was amazing.
the instructors are very good, and very helpful, i am glad i took that course, especially because of the accident avoidance part, hopefully i won't have to use it, but being on a bike you know you are going to be invisible to other people so it will come in handy
at the end of the sunday you will do your test, you will be tested on 8 things, including turning, swerving, emergency stops, acceleration, etc... one of the test is a 4 in 1, and then u will do 4 other tests for a total of 8, if you manage to score more than 11 points u fail, but out of the 90 people that were there i say only 15 failed, and they get to go back the next weekend for a retest ($75) which includes a two hour refresher.

as for the riding gear required for the course, you will need
- Jacket (Denim, or leather jacket will do)
- Pants (Denim, or leather, or motorcycle pants)
- Gloves, that cover the hand well.
- Boots, steel toe boots, or anything that covers the ankles, try to avoid boots with big heels, make it harder to shift gears)
- Helmet, any DOT approved helmet, you can rent them from PARKER BROTHERS, for about $30 for the period of the course.
they just don't want any exposed skin, incase you fall of the bike.
I hope that answers the question, if i can be any more help please let me know.
Nas
oh yeah, the course would you save you on your bike insurance, plus if you join a motorcycle club, some insurance companies will give you a discount as well.

insurance
I just got my M2 end of May and took the course through RTI.....AMAZING people there. Groups are much smaller and more personal .... we had 3 instructors to about 12 people. It was a lot of fun and lots of personal attention and their course is $375 taxes in.
As far as insurance goes, as long as you pick a bike under I believe 650cc insurance is pretty cheap. Again, here there are a couple of companies outside the general insurance population that specialize in bike insurance and are really really reasonable.
Then for your leathers visit the 400 market and see Stan. Will custom make anything for you or adjust off the rack.
If you would like the names of the 2 insurance companies I have lemme know.

Riders Plus Insurance is one and the other is Dalton Timmis Insurance Group Inc - 905-633-9019 out of Burlington I believe State Farm is another to check out.
Good luck with that
Hey another thought sometimes too the insurance companies will give a further discount if you are a member of the CMA.....
(Canadian Motorcycle Association) I think membership is about $20/year....
WOW I couldn't imagine have to pay that much for insurance!

Honestly can't really say, but mine cost $1,000 taxes and all in for full coverage.....call the 3 quotes and be sure to tell them you've taken the course and that you are a member of the CMA.
Lemme know. I'd be interested in what State Farm quotes you.
Riders Training Institute also includes with their course free take-overs! Just in case you really mess it up But they are there to make sure you don't so, watch, listen and ask as many questions as you like.
AND your MTO test is included in the price too.
Great deal all around.

Just wanted to say thanks for the post,
My dad used to teach the course at sheridan and CCIW (burlington) and
i took it when i was 16 with him as my instructor...
i was actually going to take my course to teach till i lost my license for stupidity on my part...
but to sum it up...u explained the meaning of the course and the process better than neone...
very simple...humble and informative
*will make u a better driver in a vehicle to, u learn to prevent situations rather than correct them...*
i urge even non motorcyle enthusiests to take part...400 bucks and u get to go riding all weekend...its actually fun

what if you did the written test all 3 (car/road/ signs) then it expries...i assume i have to rewrite the test? but do i have to write all 3 sections? also, how long do i have to wait before i can actually do the schooling part after the written? i heard you can take the course anytime, but can go register until 60 days.

well ur M1 has to be valid at the time u TAKE the course ...not signup
U can renew ur m1 for that reason ONCE...and ur signs is good for a year.
so even if ur M1 expires, your signs test will be good...and ur car doesnt matter whatso ever
hope i helped
