I checked for myself the insurance on a 500 not too long ago. I got a quote for about $3200. But, if you go through a broker im almost definite he can drop it quite a bit. Last year I checked insurance for a honda 600cbr and they said about 9000, when i went to a broker, he told me 4000 and if i were to pay cash for the entire year upfront he would give it to me for 2800. I was 18 at the time and had just gotten my m2.

Actually, I was 19 when I first got my license and for a ninja 500, the insurance was just $1010/yr. You'll be surprised how much insurance is; why not ask the insurance company themselves instead of asking what other people "think" ur rates would be. Have you considered SV650? That is not a bad starter bike, same with the GS500 and the Ninja 500 you mentioned.

I just got my m2, I'm 24 and a ninja 500 is around 1600 for myself. Try a ninja 250 or that new honda cbr125r, might be a bit cheaper.
