Depends on the year, and conditions
the older Eclipses (94-98) have some possible electrical issues, about the most major thing I have come across. As long as the Car was treated well, and not constantly bounced off the rev Limiter everything should be fairly solid.

DONT GO SPYDER!!! For one, be prepared to get soaked on a regular basis, Spyders are known for leaky tops. I've had to have my top adjusted 3 times in 5 years, and it still leaks. But thats not just the gap i'm talking about, its the way the rails are designed. All the water that gets trapped at the front edge of the top, gets routed through the rails. About a litre will get dumped inside your car everytime you drop the top. They also have the tendency to twist while turning, substantially reducing the handling. That being said, when making turns, the twist of the body causes the dashboard to squeak. Those are probably the two biggest issues to watch out for.
Some other Spyder related issues..
-Top Actuators are about as quality as Mitsubishi door handles
-Top fastening latches break often($200/pr to replace)
-Replace factory top with aftermarket. Why? A pocket knife will tear through the factory top, aftermarket ones can take much more of a beating. Trust me, theives WILL try and slice your top. Its happened twice already to me, $800 job to replace each time.
If you think you can handle these issues, go for it! Its a great whip, and the chicks looooooooove it. Just damn expensive to maintain..
Oh yeah, one more thing, not to be taken litely either.. Make sure theres an Exorcist present when you purchase the car

Leaky tops? Really? A buddy of mine owns one and never had any problems with his.
As for the thieves, well, that's just bad luck and I'm sorry to hear that. Here in Mississauga I can leave my car unlocked all the time and people won't go near it. But with that in mind, I go to school up in the rexdale area (humber) and some guy tried to steal my rims the very first week of class..

About the leaky tops, its caused by a combination of two things.
1) Weather. The cold can stretch your top real tight, causing a tiny gap between where the top and windshield meet. There have been a couple of times this year where i've driven my car just after a snowfall, and all the snow which fell on the hood/windshield has gone right through the gap into the car causing a blizzard inside. This issue isn't too bad in the summer time, but I still get drops of water falling on my lap when I drive through the rain.
2) Turning. I'm not sure if this is a direct cause of a leaky top, but when you make a turn at high speeds you can see the twist causing some stress on the latches.
Those two things together are the reason I keep having to have my top adjusted. Hey, if you can get one that wont leak on you as much, then awesome. Just dont count on having better luck then I have..
Also, I mentioned in a post above about the rails trapping water, theres a patchy solution on the club DSM boards to fix that issue

4g63 2G motors have a problem with crank waaaaalking. Have the car checked out by your mechanic, and make sure he measures the end play of the crank. Also check for leaks at the front diff(if awd). You don't wanna run out of front diff fluid. Sign of it leaking is oil splatter on you front pipe and around the undercarage of the car. I use to have a talon tsi awd and it was so much fun, girls loved it. I miss the hks blow off valve. I miss the beast.
