Does the 2002 XG350L have a transmission filter? The manual makes it
look like a spin on that is located on top of the transmssion, but
heck if I can find it. I have 20K on my car and would like to change
the fluid and filter. I figure if I buy about 6 or 7 quarts that
should be enough.

The "new-generation" transaxles had an external ATF filter early on. Your car
doesn't have one.

 

That's what I assumed. You can see the casting where one was suposed
to go, but there is no filter there nor any holes to the transmission.
So do all the late model Hyundai's not have any transmission filter?
If so, that's a nice selling point (I think). So I guess all I have to
do is drain and refile the fluid, that's easy.

There's one, but it's not a maintenance item.

Does "not a maintenace item" mean it can't be replced or or you don't
suggest replacing it? I've taken my share of tranmission pans off and
replaced internal filters, it's no a big deal (just a messy one).
