squeeling on Santa Fe
Has anybody else had a intermitent squeeling noise that seems to be coming
from the wheels or brakes while driving. It disapears when I get on the
brakes sometimes turning left or right will also make it go away for the
time your turning.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
shouldn't pad wear sensors only engage when your on the brakes and and not
when your off the brakes or accelerating??

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
My 2002 4wd Santa Fe has this problem too. It is not always
reproducible and never will do it when the dealer checks it. The
noise will always go away if you touch the brakes. Then sometimes it
will come right back and other times go away for a while. The car has
34K miles and has been doing this for at least 6K miles. They
supposedly checked the brakes at the 30K service.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Al

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
I know of a humming noise (not as high a pitch as a squeal). If you've
ever heard a Ford idle actuator making a loud humming, it sounds almost
like that. I think I've been able to duplicate it only up to 20mph or so.
It always goes away when the brakes are depressed. A call to Hyundai led
them to tell me that this noise was coming from the front brakes and to
apply anti-seize to the caliper slides and contact areas and to the pad
backing plates. I've duplicated this condition on two vehicles and
neither has returned. One customer called back to say that the condition
had been corrected.
Both vehicles on which this occurred had paint on the backing plates
that was flaking off and rust underneath where the caliper pistons
contact. I thought it might be possible that the flaking paint/rust might
set up the right conditions for a vibration.

Thanks, that makes sense. The noise I have is better described as a
humming noise.
I will share this with the dealer when it goes back in.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
Mine is more of a squealing sound, kind of like the sound you hear when you
apply metal to metal at high speeds. I had an appointment with the dealer
today, it squealed most of the way but as I expected, stopped 10 miles from
the dealer. They took it for an extensive test drive but couldn't duplicate
the noise. The last service they had to do something to the front right
calliper cause it was hard to turn but this noise seems to be coming from
the rear wheels.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
I had the same problem and the same difficulty pinpointing the cause.
Finally the dealer replaced my power steering pump and everything was ok
for about 6 months. It recently began again and today I was told that the
pump damange has returned to the new pump due to foreign materials in the
lines. They are now replacing the pump and all of the lines...based on
advice from Hyundai and still under warranty...let's hope it stays fixed
this time.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
was it a squealing sound like metal on metal, ours sounds like it's coming
from the rear wheels, can't figure out which side but I'm thinking the right
side. While the car is cold there's no sound but as soon has a few tens of
kilometres have been put on the sounds shows up. It's very annoying. My
brother in law thinks it may be the bearings, I don't know I'm not a
mechanic.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
Very interesting to see this post as my car has been squeeling for
over a week, but if I apply the brake it stops. So I took it in to my
mechanic & he asked if the car has not been parked in the garage?
True, it ws outside due to storage for a friend in our garage. So he
tells me moisture builds up & that is the aqueel. So night before it
got it home back, & now no squeel.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
So, according to your mechanic Santa Fe's need to be parked in garages??
Hmmm I don't remember seeing that mentioned in the manual. I got the brake
pads replaced yesterday and so far no squealing, yet but the true test will
be this week-end. I'll post on Monday to let you know if the car squealed
during our drive up to Bissett Creek.

Re: squeeling on Santa Fe
Surprising to me & my DH that since it is back in the garage the
squeel is gone. Almost 27K on the odometer too. No wallet game here
either.
