Shift Problems
From Bones46@webtv.net
I am leasing a Hyundai 2001Accent GL with an intermittent shifting
problem. Sometimes the shifter doesnt work right away after the car has
parked for a while.
On page 2-6 of the owners manual it states: If you cannot move the shift
lever from the P position to any other position with the brake pedal
fully depresed and the ignition key in the On position, remove the cap
on the console with a thin object such as a pencil , push the shift lock
release button down. Then, with the brake pedal depressed , move the
shift lever to the desired position, then the button will automatically
return to its original position after sfifting from the P position.
Then, reinstall the cap. Have the system checked by your Hyundai dealer.
I used all kinds of devices to remove the cap and couldnt do it. So
after yesterday when the shifter wouldnt shift I called the 24 hour
emergency roadside assistance. I was at work and wanted to go home.
After about 20 minutes the shifter was working and I cancelled the
assistance.
This morning I took the car to my dealer and service dept checked it
out. They claim they couldnt find a problem. They were able to remove
the cap and it is off now. The service rep said if the shift has a
problem again hopefully you will be nearby. What a dumb thing to say I
thought!! I am not very happy with the Hyundai service. Has anybody had
a shift lock release problem or anything I stated? Bob
