Servicing under lease
Hi there --I'm just wondering whether you have an obligation to take
your car to a Hyundai dealer for servicing if you are leasing a car
from them. I'm in Canada.
I was thinking of doing the oil/air filter stuff and tire rotations
myself, and keeping a record, and the other work to a mechanic I
trust. I'm not really happy with the available dealer in my area.
And I do plan on buying the car.
Thanks for you advice, -Jack

Re: Servicing under lease
no problems at all servicing yourself, hyundai even has a 'saturday'
mechanics section in their owners manual ...
just keep ALL records,reciepts,dates/miles when things done and use , i
know... ahhk genuwine hyundai air filters, oil fil;eters etc.
(saves grief incase of a warranty claim)

Y'know, if I knew all of the BS that Hyundai puts you through just to get
warranty service I would have went with another manufacturer.

Thanks for your advice. It is a real load off my mind. I'd much prefer
to do these things myself, but I wasn't sure if I signed it away in
the lease.
BTW --I did see the section in the manual, but wasn't sure if it only
applied to people who've bought the car, as opposed to leasing.
I'm really happy to hear this,
Jack

Does your lease say anything about servicing the car?

Re: Servicing under lease
From Bones46@webtv.net
You can take your Hyundai to any servie center for maintenance. Hyundai
will notify you when it is time to call them for servicing...oil
changes...etc per manual.. but I just garbage it and go to my QuikLube
center for the usual work. I even had some body work done due to other
car doors and grocery carts. I used my insurance company for an estimate
and the gave me some money to get the side fixed. I went to a reputable
body garage that has been doin business for years. They took out the
scratches and it was made to look good again. And that receipt from the
garage and insurance will be with the papers I submit to Hyundai when I
take the car back when the lease is up. Im keeping my car also. It is a
Accent GL and i like it. Bob

Here's the section that has to do with maintenance.
22. Maintenance, Repairs, Operating Expenses and Return of Vehicle:
You must, at your expence, maintain and repair the Vehicle and keep it
in good working order and condition....
You must also ensure that the Vehicle is serviced as the manufacturer
recommends in the Owner's Manual and Maintenance Schedule that comes
with the Vehicle and as the manufacturer requests in any recall
campaign so as to keep the manufacturer's warranty in effect.

Do you have to purchase them from the dealer?

If that's it, I see no reason why you couldn't do the work
yourself (keeping ALL receipts and such info). The various filters
may be purchased from the dealer. Or you can use after market
products. Just don't buy the absolute cheapest junk. Pick the middle
ground. ;-)
