I just found 5 service bulletins on the TSB webpage for 2005 elantra.

2 recalls for 2005 elantra.

all sounds pretty serious. One recall warned that drivers should not
drive the hyundai due to "steering linkage problem." OMG.


I was actually thinking of purchasing a 2005 elantra in the coming
weeks. However, Should I just go get another car besides hyundai? The
dealer still
has a lot of 2005 elantras left. Do you think he has serviced them for
these recall issues or does he
wait for someone to purchase them, then have the buyer return to have
dealer
fix them?

what is your advice?

 

i doubt any of those cars on the lot are affected by the tie rod end
problems only 277 vehicles affected.
granted one is to many, but thats a very low number...
nothing to worry about, why not get a 06 sonata 4cyl?

Did you actually read them? Two of the TSB's are simply additions to
sensor codes and one is for a new shift **** cap. Another is for
reprogramming the passenger's airbag sensor.

While the tie rod end problem sounds ominous only a small number of cars
MAY have the defect. Chances are that very few actually do.

Only if you're paranoid. All cars have some issues and Hyundai has fewer
than most. Hyundai initial quality ranks right up there with Honda and
Toyota.

It's a simple matter to find out if the cars are affected and to insist
that the car you purchase be serviced before you pick it up. Any
responsible dealer would do this anyway as part of the pre-delivery
preparation.
