Re: Sante Fe with the 4 cly engine Gas Mileage
Not a mistake if you're okay with horrible power and an engine that eats
timing belts for lunch. If you get this engine, make sure your replace
the timing belt every 4 years or 60k miles, whichever comes first, without
fail. Actually, if you're no longer under warranty, you might want to
consider every 50k miles for safety. If you lose a timing belt on this
engine, you'll likely be replacing the valves or cylinder head.

My research shows the 2.7L v6 gets almost the same mpg as the 2.4L 4 cyl.
Just bought a 2003 gls 2.7 and waiting for delivery from east coast.
Transport companies suck!

Re: Sante Fe with the 4 cly engine Gas Mileage
DO NOT purchase the Santa Fe with the 4 cylinder!! I purchased a 2003
Santa Fe with the 2.4L engine and let me tell you, that thing was
SLOW!!! I could have pushed it faster than it drove itself!
Anyway, the gas mileage for the 2.4L 4 cylinder is 20/27 and the 2.7L V6
is rated 20/26, so the difference is miniscule.
I ended up trading in my slow as a brick Santa Fe after 10 months on a
2003 Tiburon GT V6. VERY happy I did that!.
Stepping up to the V6 on the Santa Fe is definately something I would
recommend, and something I wish I had done when I purchased my Santa Fe,
but I am very happy with my Tiburon now.
Have a GREAT day!!
