Reliability update on my 4 year old Sonata
The first warranty repair occurred at 15,000 miles. I had some
concerns about the auto trannie from day one because I suspected it
had something was wrong with it. At 15,000 miles it completely
failed. Only one gear was still operating (even reverse was gone) and
I limped into the dealership. With no argument they replaced the
transmission.
Now, fast forward to the four year point. We went to Daylight Saving
time and my dashboard clock could not be updated. I took it to the
dealership and they ordered a new clock and installed it, no hassle.
I think that is a rather good four year track record. Only 2 problems
in all. Oh yes, I did forget one more. The original battery was
becoming weak just before they two year mark and Hyunadia replaced
that at no charge.

Have you had any reliability problems with the reman trans? On the older
model transmissions, the overall reman reliability was close to that of
new, but on the newer trans models, I think the reman reliability hasn't
changed while the new reliability has improved considerably. I'm not
basing this on a large sample size, so I appreciate any input.

The replacement trannie has displayed no problems. It also does not
show any of the little glitches that the original one had from day
one. Example: I would back out of the driveway and shift from
reverse to drive. The original trannie would sound like it was
playing catch-up to go from reverse to drive. Also, with the original
I could distinctly feel it when the trannie went into or out of
lockup. I bleive it was faulty when leaving the factory.
