Re: Just bought a Tiburon!
I have a 2003 Tib V6. What recalls would you be talking about? I haven't
had anything done to it. Have a link with info?

There are 2 recalls that I'm aware of. The really important one, sent
out ~November 2003, is for a potential problem with the rear brake
lines. There's a Tech Service Bulletin on
http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/ (WARNING: Internet Exploder-only
website, thanks to the brain-damaged "web designers" they used). Get
this done, though the problem probably won't manifest itself unless your
car is older than 1 year and you live in an area where they salt the
roads frequently.
The other recall is for a potential problem where the Check Engine light
comes on for no reason. Much less serious, but still worth fixing.
That one came out in January 2004.

AIR BAG WIRING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE. IT COULD ALSO CAUSE THE AIR BAG FUSE
(CAVITY NUMBER 5) TO OPEN, PREVENTING AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. DAMAGED DRIVER
SEAT BELT BUCKLE WIRING COULD CAUSE THE SEAT BELT WARNING LAMP OR THE
SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) AIR BAG WIRING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE. IT
COULD ALSO CAUSE THE AIR BAG FUSE (CAVITY NUMBER 5) TO OPEN, PREVENTING AIR
BAG DEPLOYMENT.
Consequence:
NONDEPLOYMENT OF AN SRS AIR BAG IN A CRASH WHERE AIR BAG
DEPLOYMENT IS WARRANTED COULD INCREASE THE RISK OR SEVERITY OF INJURY IN A
CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE, IF
NECESSARY, AND WILL PLACE A PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE DRIVER SEAT BELT
BUCKLE WIRING TO PREVENT DAMAGE FROM OCCURRING. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN

Component: OTHER
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1174
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LEFT LOWER INSTRUMENT
PANEL BRACKET WAS NOT INSTALLED.
Consequence:
IF THIS BRACKET HAS NOT BEEN INSTALLED, THERE MAY BE AN
INCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF INJURY OR INCREASED SEVERITY OF INJURY IN A FRONTAL
CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES TO DETERMINE IF THE
BRACKET HAS BEEN INSTALLED. IF THE BRACKET HAS NOT BEEN INSTALLED, THE
DEALER WILL INSTALL THE LEFT LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACKET. OWNER
NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 4, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN
AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE
REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
Notes:

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 03V321000 Recall Date : AUG
20, 2003
Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 49
Summary:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FRONT PASSENGER
AIR BAG IS MOUNTED BENEATH THE RIGHT PORTION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL’S
PADDED SURFACE. TEAR LINES ARE FORMED INTO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT
PANEL’S PADDED SURFACE DURING THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL
TOP PAD. THESE TEAR LINES ALLOW A PORTION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SURFACE TO
FOLD UPWARD IF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYS.
Consequence:
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE AIR BAG MAY NOT
DEPLOY PROPERLY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT
PASSENGER.
Remedy:
HYUNDAI WILL REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. OWNER
NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON OCTOBER 13, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN
AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE
REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI OF AMERICA AT
1-800-633-5151, OR IF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN PUERTO RICO, HYUNDAI OF

COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 312292
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR BRAKE TUBES PASS
BEHIND THE FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER. TWO STEERING GEARBOX MOUNTING
BRACKETS ARE WELDED TO THE CROSSMEMBER. ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), THE REAR BRAKE TUBES COULD CONTACT BOTH
STEERING GEARBOX MOUNTING BRACKETS. ON VEHICLES THAT ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH
ABS, THE REAR BRAKE TUBES MAY CONTACT ONLY THE LEFT MOUNTING BRACKET.
CONTACT BETWEEN THE REAR BRAKE TUBES AND THE STEERING BRACKETS COULD CAUSE
WEAR AND CORROSION THAT COULD RESULT IN BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE.
Consequence:
FLUID LEAKAGE COULD RESULT IN REDUCED BRAKING CAPABILITY
INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE REAR BRAKE TUBES SO THEY DO
NOT CONTACT THE MOUNTING BRACKETS, INSTALL BRAKE TUBE CLIPS TO CONTROL THE
LOCATION OF THE REAR BRAKE TUBES, AND APPLY ANTI-CORROSION MATERIAL TO THE
TUBES IN THE AREAS WHERE CONTACT WITH THE MOUNTING BRACKETS MAY HAVE
OCCURRED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON OCTOBER 13, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD

I have been using Usenet ever since the Internet was made available to the
public. Prior to that I was a FidoNet point.
I never heard of a convention regarding where to place your reply in a
message. Certainly there are guidelines and even rules regarding quoting
ratio, and these are important for bandwidth and readability considerations.
Where might I find a spec reference or something that would define this
top-post guideline?
Besides if it is guideline, it is not a rule, and is therefore not
enforceable.

Well, if you type "usenet etiquette top post" into Google, you'll find out.
The first hit in the list is pretty self-explanatory.
This is my favourite part.....

??! How did you ever miss the periodic flamewars that erupt over
top-posting? I've only been a regular Usenet reader since 1997, and
I've seen about 20 of those in various groups. (Comp.os.linux.*,
rec.games.roguelike.angband, and if you top-post in ASR or ATSR, you'll
get mercilessly flamed by the denizens there.)

Yep!

*Nothing* is enforceable on Usenet; the whole flap about cancels (which
Wayne surely remembers) and the spam problem point this out. All there
are are accepted standards of behavior, which don't get enforced often
enough IMHO. *shrug*

Re: Just bought a Tiburon!
This top-posting deal has never made sense to me. Can someone explain the
rationale behind it? I'll explain why I always, and will always, post this
way. When I am following a thread, and someone writes a book on something
to make a point, wtf would I scroll all the way to the bottom to read a
response? If I pick up a thread that I missed a post, then I will start at
the beginning and catch up, but scrolling through the posts to find
something new is rediculous. Post your response, and leave what has already
been posted below. If you 'need' to read it, then you scroll, but when you
are following a thread, you usually know what has already been said. The
only time top posting makes sense, imo, is when someone replies to many
different things a person posts, like specific questions. Otherwise, what's
the point?
It's like setting up your ng to have the oldest posts up top, forcing you to
scroll all the way to the bottom to see something new posted.
Just my two sense on this subject. I've been doing this since Compuserve
was all the rage, and someone goofed on this theory I believe.

Thanks for the info. Now I have to contact my dealership and ask them why
they haven't addressed any of these.

Or thoughtless. If anyone is too lazy to snip and bottom post, most likely
they were too lazy to read the supplied URLs on usenettiquette, and simply
posted another request for explanation as to why they shouldn't top-post.

Re: Just bought a Tiburon!
Many of them may not apply to your car. If you call and give them the VIN,
they can check for any recalls through Hyundai that have not been
performed on your vehicle.
Also, depending on the date of recall and date of purchase, the recalls
may have already been performed prior to sale.
Last, I believe the check engine lamp recall is not federally mandated, so
the dealer may not be able to do it unless you request it. In any event,
you should have received a recall letter about any recall on your vehicle
as long as Hyundai knows you are the owner.
