other way confirm that the new pump is *actually* pumping.
I don't think wetness is sufficient test in this case.

Sounds like good advice to me.
Another piece of info the OP forgot to mention: Was the starter motor
actually turning? If it was, that's good. If not, it probably means
the starter motor is broken. If the starter motor is turning, there's
adequate fuel pressure, and the sparkplugs are OK, one more thing to
check is the idle air control motor. You usually see symptoms (rough
idle, trouble starting) a week or 2 before that completely dies; if the
car was exhibiting those symptoms, it's a good idea to check.
Also remember that Hyundai makes a lot of their shop manuals available
to the general public at http://hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp .
NOTE: Requires Internet Exploder 5.5 or higher, probably won't work on
a MacOS machine since the "web designers" used client-side VBScript(!).
The actual info is all in PDF or HTML; it's just the interface that's
brain-damaged. HTH,
