I receive a Design Tech International remote car starter (early Christmas
present) for my 2003 Santa Fe. I've downloaded the updated manual and tech
information from the manufacturer's web site, and as was looking for some
information prior to installation.



This model, 23927, supports several extra features like remote door locks,
basic alarm system, etc. However, being that it's about 5 degrees F
outside, and I don't have a well heated garage, I'm planning on just
installing it to do the basic starting and save the "bells and whistles" for
warmer weather. The extras already exist with the factory remote, but it
would be nice not to have to keep both remotes.



Basically, this unit uses relays to simulate the turning of the key in the
ignition. The manufacturer has a wiring color code for the Santa Fe on
their web site that shows which wires correspond to their designations of
"ignition 1", "ignition 2", etc.



On their color chart for the Santa Fe, it shows the following wiring colors
in the ignition switch harness:

Blue - live in "run" and "start" positions

Pink - live in "run". May or may not be live in "start"

Green- live in "accessory" and "run" modes



(I am planning on verifying all this with a meter before I do anything!)



The main question I have is on the one that they designate "start", it's the
wire that's active when you've turned the key to the "start" position.
According to their color chart, it's also listed as "blue". Is that the
same wire as the "blue" wire in the list above.



Can anyone familiar with the Santa Fe wiring give me some clarification on
this?



Also, I know this seems like a basic question, but the hook up to each wire
would be basically just "tapping" into each line, sort of like a "tee" in a
plumbing fixture, correct? That's what it seems like it would have to be,
otherwise the key ignition wouldn't functions.



If anyone has done this, or has any other information, it would be
appreciated.

Have a look at the schematics on www.hmaservice.com. They're in the ETM
section. I think you've pretty much got the right idea, but haven't taken
time to check the schematics.

a picture, I don't get any actual pictures, just the placeholder icon. I'm
pretty sure my IE settings are correct; I don't get this effect on other
sites.

The ones I was trying to see were under "Engine electrical", "Starting
system", "starting system schematics". There's two images, "Starting system
(1)" and "starting system (2)". All I see the the picture icon, no images.

I'm going to keep trying to figure a way to get the images from the site,
but I've tried off and on since I had the Santa Fe, and I've never been able
to see the drawings on the HMAService site.

Is there any way you can possibly get the images and send them to me? The
address is "MSO", followed by "999" at "hotmail.com" (no
quotes).

As a follow up, I tried accessing HMAService from a differnt computer
(at my work), I still get the same thing; no images, just the generic
picture icon. I tried with Firefox and wasn't even able to get to the
"service" area after logging in.

I have noticed both at home and work that the failure to get the images
only seems to happen on drawings. Photos seem to show OK. It looks
like the drawings are in a format that IE doesn't recognize.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I've tried to send emails from the site to you. You may have the same
issues, don't know. Also, the e-mails may not contain the info the
subject line indicates. I did a test of this once before, and what I
received was not what I mailed myself.

You may want to make sure you have pop-up blocking off when trying to view
these pages if you haven't done that already.

I haven't received anything in my hotmail account. I have tried turning
off the pop-up blockers, making sure the IE settings are set to display
images, etc. The odd thing is that different places on the HMAservice where
photos are displyed, I see them. It only looks like drawings, diagrams,
etc. aren't showing up. Internet Explorer shows the generic picture icon,
but it's not the "broken" icon, so IE does recognize that an image is there,
it just doesn't display it. Do you know what file format they use for the
drawings?. I sent an email to their feedback site, hopefully they will come
back with some info.

Something else really strange. If I select the year to 2002 or 2001 models,
I can see some of the drawings. Still not all of them, but some. I was
able to get the "Starting System Schematics" for 2002. Should that be the
same for the 2003? Also, is there somewhere I can get the wiring color

In another note, I've seen references to an "immobilizer control system" on
the Santa Fe 2002-2006 (I have a 2003). The shop information on hmaservice
references a transponder built into the ignition key, but I know mine
doesn't have it; I've use simple flat keys from my local hardware store,
made for $2.
The reason I'm asking is that the remote starter website references an alarm
bypass module (additional cost) that you put a spare key into. According to
their system the 2003 Santa Fe needs this module.

If you have the 2.4 or 2.7, the '01 and '02 schematics should be the same,
I believe.

Here's the wire codes I remember off the top of my head:
B-black, G-green, L-blue, P-pink, R-red, Y-yellow.
