Programming Keyless Remote
Have a 2000 Hyundai Sonata GL. Changed the batteries recently in the
keyless remotes now they won't work. Dealer says when the battery is
changed they need to be re-programmed. Does anyone know if this is true??
Does the
GL model have a VALET switch. Dealer wants $35.00 per unit to program.
Need any assistance.

Re: Programming Keyless Remote
I've not known it to be necessary to reprogram after changing batteries.
The control module in the car is what's being programmed. It's programmed
to recognize your individual remotes. Changing the batteries in the
remotes should not affect their frequencies.
If this is the port-installed security system, some cars had valet
switches and some did not. The switch should be on the left front kick
panel.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and check the tsb's for your vehicle. There's an
excellent tsb on the security system and how to reprogram and change
settings.

What is the specific problem? It's just a web site, like any other.
- Go to http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp
- Enter the model, year and engine of your car.
- Click on the tab of the information you want to see.
Shop = Shop Manual
ETM = Electrical
TS = Troubleshooting
DTC/OBD-II = Error Codes
TSB = Technical Service Bulletins

Brian: Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately when I go to the site, I get
no tabs across the top of the page. My brother who is a systems analyst
says I must have something set on my computer that isn't allowing me to
see them. He is going to access the site himself and get the info.

I'm a computer geek too and I have to say that it's pretty unlikely that
it's a setting on your machine, unless you've done some serious
interface tweaking or you've got spyware on your system that's tampered
with browser settings. The default settings for IE work fine with the site.
What browser and what version are you using? If you haven't already done
so, try upgrading to IE 6.
If you have any custom tool bars in IE, disable them. If you haven't
checked your system for spyware, download AdAware, Spybot Searh and
Destroy and/or Spy Sweeper and run it. These are free spyware
elimination utilities that will clean up your system.

Re: Programming Keyless Remote
My brother, who is a systems analyst could not access Hyundai's site
either. At least he could not see the tabs on the Webtech page.
Apparently some isp are allowed access while others are not. In any case
I'm unable to get the info to program a keyless remote. If someone can
access it, I would appreciate the info. I own a 2000 Sonata, with the 4
cylinder DOHC engine. Any help would be appreciated from those who can
fully navigate the site.
