Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
This is a shot in the dark, i.e. I wonder if the original dealer you purchased the car from would have a record of your key serial number, or if it could be referenced through the VIN somehow?

If the robbery includes the address where the car is I would take
appropriate measures quickly, same if there was house/apt keys with them !
Or just stake out for a few days with some 'back up'...............they will
be around.........
Sorry

Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
I did get the keys from the dealer. But now the problem
is that there is a security system in my car whose car rings
are stolen with the keys. The security system wont let me
start the car. If I open the door with the key, it will kill
the battery by shouting the siren.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
Yes they have my address. I need to get everything changed.
Guess, there is nothing in my house more valuable than what
they already took. So I'll bet it for a few days before I change
everything.
Right now, first thing is to get my car from the airport.
Damn that security system. It only stops the owner from getting inside.
How do I get it shut off without the keychain?

If it's only the siren that's your problem, open the hood and
pull/cut the siren wires.

Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
You have the keys and just need to get past the alarm.
Most theives don't have the keys - so open the car pop the hood and
disconnect the battery. Now start disconencting the alarm components.
Usually they just put a thin wire directly to the battery to power the
alarm or the sneak a thin wire in on the fuse panel and pick up a fuse.
If you're not comfortable with this - pay a few bucks and bring out a
service tech from a local car alarm company to do it for you.

Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
Get in your car. The alarm will sound. Turn the key to the start position
and release (back to the "on" position). The car will have not started.
Wait 30 seconds. The alarm will stop after about 20 seconds. Wait the
full 30 seconds. Then start the car. The alarm will not set again until
the car is locked with a remote.
If your insurance is covering your losses, include the remotes with the
loss. They cost about $100 each and the car must be programmed to
recognize the remotes. Once your car is programmed to recognize the new
remotes, it won't recognize the old ones anymore. If you lock it with the
remote, the thief won't be able to start your car unless he knows what I
just wrote in the first paragraph.

Re: Lost car keys: Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai RoadSide Assistance took care of it!!
Damn! They rock. Took them 2 minutes to get rid of the
alarm wires. My alarm is disconnected now. Now need to
worry about connecting it again.
Thanks,
