I can't put my car into gear in my 2002 Sonata
It is cold and my car has been sitting for about 5 days.
It sounds fine (fine being a relative term), but when I try to press the button and shift into drive it will not allow me to shift into drive or any other gear for that matter.(Yes, I have pushed the brake down).
Others I have spoken with have suggested it is a fuse. But I thought I might ask if there is specific info. regarding Hyundai.
Appreciation in advance.
Truthfully, I'd like to make Hyundai tow it to a shop to replace that fuse (or whatever it is) - but it would be interesting to see if I can fix it myself.
p.s. - This car is to be sold soon and (a gambler/sucker -if one can be found) will be able to get it for a very good price.

Boy, that should sell in less than a week....
"For sale, one 2002 Hyundai Sonata. Would prefer to sell to gambler/sucker.
No test pilots".

How long are you letting the car sit before you try shifting? How
cold, exactly, has it been? I read on a forum a couple of days ago
about a person who lived in Canada whose coolent froze solid because
it was in the -30's for a few days. Try starting the car and letting
it run for 10 minutes before you try shifting.
Don't try to fix it, make Hyundai do it, that's what that 10/100K
warranty is for.

Do you have the same thing as the 03 where you have to step on the
brake to shift? If so, it may be related to this. Make sure you step
HARD on the brake, maybe the switch is frozen.

If "cold" means below 32 degrees F and you usually don't see temps that low,
you could have water (now ice) in the shift cable. I bought a flood vehicle
in the spring and drove it for 9 months before finding out I had water in
both the shift cable and the throttle cable.
