Hyundai Elantra 98 engine stalling and sputtering
I own a '98 Hyundai Elantra, 5 speed manual transmission. In the last
one or two years, I have faced a problem when sometimes the engines
just seems to stall, sputter and then die out. The check engine light
comes on.
This happens typically when I reduce the speed for making a sharp
right turn, for example. Or, when I am starting the car getting it to
cruise from zero speed. Sometimes, it also happens when I am in the
middle of a cruise, say at 40-45 mph speeds.
Also, the problem seems to be a lot worse during the summer months.
The temperature seems to have an effect, and high temperatures seem to
worsen this problem.
I took it to a mechanic and I was told that it could be because oil is
leaking into the air filtration system and confusing the sensors.
Does anyone else also experience the same problem? Any suggestions on
what may be wrong, or how to fix are highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. They did check for DTC's and I was told that there are none.

I supposed you did the typical things such as changing the fuel filter, etc.
Sounds a little like starvation... but then my experience on that sort of
thing dates back to carbs vehicles.

How about changing spark plug wires and plugs itself. It seem as high
voltage is breaking down somewhere.
