How to switch alarm back on on a UK ACCENT 2000
Hello Hyundai people,
My father-in-law and I recently discovered the virtues of buying a Hyundai
when we purchased a 2000 Accent 1.5CDX (new shape) for his daughter to
drive.
We are over the moon with the car but have one problem. The keyless
entry/alarm does not work and I can't work out where the
fuses/relays/components are, to check them. We replaced the battery in the
key fob and now know that it seems to be transmitting, as there is a red
L.E.D. that lights when you press the buttons.
However, it seems that the system is not enabled, as the car just locks and
unlocks via the door key and there is no alarm activity. No flashing lights
no chirps. The power door locks all function fine. It seems as if the alarm
was disabled when the battery failed in the fob.
I have tried to gather information on the very helpful webtech service site
but it seems that the dash board access panels that are visible in the
pictures do not exist on UK cars. The site mentions a relay panel in the
passenger compartment, but this seems to be missing. It should have the
alarm relay right in the middle of it!
Can anyone suggest where I should start? I'd really like Helen to be able to
use this feature on her new Hyundai!
Thanks very much in advance!
Steve

Re: How to switch alarm back on on a UK ACCENT 2000
Further to my previous post,
My Dad-in-law and I did manage to find the relay for the burglar alarm
yesterday. Under the steering wheel behind the crashpad panel. I unscrewed
it and it all seemed to be present and correct. The car also has an ETACS
box with the OFF/SET switch on the side. We tried to re-code the fob to the
car, (or is that the car to the fob?) as I've seen described on many sites,
but nothing happened. My theory was that the remote fob had lost its power
for some time and the car had cleared the stored code somehow. No such luck!
What about disconnecting the battery? Would this totally reset the whole
system, or cause more problems than it's worth?
Thanks again for your knowledge!

If it has the off/set switch like you describe, it sounds like the system
used on Kias. If I recall correctly, you should be able to program by
taking the key out of the ignition, moving the switch to "set," holding
the lock button for one second, and then moving the switch back to "off."
My memory on this is very spotty, however.

Well, that was the system used on the OMRON or Hyundai Autonet ETACS
module on Hyundais until recently.
The switch was eliminated in the middle of 2004 model year.
