FYI: (2002 Sonata) Replaced OEM speakers with Kenwoods. Finally.
After a couple of years of threatening to rip out my OEM speakers on
my 2002 Sonata, I went ahead and did it in March. I replaced the cheap
rears with Kenwood Excelon XR901s and KFC-C1739ie for the doors. I
certainly notice the soundstage being wider when I adjust the fader
properly. The XR901s were definitely money well spent as I notice
better response at the low end. I wish I could have matched some
Excelons in the doors but no models fit. Yet. Leaving the fader at
dead center, you lose a little of the wider soundstage up front, but
the rears do hit much punchier lows. Adjusting the fader to balance
the front soundstage causes you to lose a bit of deeper bass. The
factory deck powers these just fine and I didn't notice any distortion
when I really cranked it. I'm looking to upgrade the deck with a
Kenwood as well to hear what these speakers are really capable of
doing. Removing the rear deck and door panels was a LOT simpler than I
had thought. The whole job took me less than 5 hours from start to
finish using the utmost of care. Just thought I'd pass the info along.
