Disabling Remote Locking etc
I,m being quoted exorbitant prices to replace a "remote" for a 2002 Sonata.
Anyone know if its possible to disable the remote feature all together and
just use the keys for access?. Australian model. Around $300 to replace
something that cost ~ $5 to manufacture seems a little steep.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you really asking if you can use
the car without using the remote?
My 99 Sonata never had a remote, my 2003 and 2007 came with one but I never
used it. So what's the problem?
The 2007 only has a key lock on the drivers door, but it just so happens
that's the one I use!

I never noticed that in two years. Most have keylocks on both front doors,
but I never use them.

Most of the rentals I've had in the last couple of years only has the key
lock on the drivers side.

As long as the vehicle isn't locked with the remote, the alarm won't arm,
and the vehicle can be operated with the key.

Re: Disabling Remote Locking etc
On my 2003 Sonata, if my wife locked it with the remote and I opened it with
the key, the alarm would sound.
But on my 2007, I can open it with the key and the alarm does not go off.

Re: Disabling Remote Locking etc
I think it may be possible on 2006 and newer Sonatas to have the alarm
disarm when the key is turned.

Re: Disabling Remote Locking etc
Sorry about not responding, had to go overseas for 3 weeks. All I want to do
is use the keys for entry/exit/starting , no use of remote at all.
Sometimes it works OK but occasionally when I use the key for entry the darn
alarm goes off. I saw one comment re when locking car with remote and
locking with keys. I,ll try locking car solely with key. That might solve
problem. Many thanks for advice.

Re: Disabling Remote Locking etc
Why use a key to lock There's a button to hit when you get out of the car
that locks all doors.
