About ten years ago their reputation was questionable but it has improved measurably. They offer a 10 year engine and drivetrain warranty. The warranty on my Tiburon's radio is for 3 years and that's not bad. I have free roadside assistance too. The Tiburon is just about the cheapest sports car you can buy too. Hyundai has concentrated on improved service departments also. I hear resale value is not as good with this company but thats just a lagging indicator. Eventually people will get the word that the present Hyundai is different from the Hyundai from years past.

If you go their Korean website, and you're lucky in clicking random
links, you will find out they are an enormous conglomerate (chaebol is
the Korean word - see
http://www.megastories.com/seasia/sk...ol/chaebol.htm ).
they manufacture an incredible amount of products, from ships to MP3
players http://www.i4u.com/section-viewarticle-34.html
As for the cars, they were 2nd last year in Consumer Reports reliability
index, which you can check at your local library.
I am very pleased with the 02 Santa Fe I have, an incredible value for
the money paid. Only hope it will still be so when it will be time to
replace it, which by the way I don't plan to do for a very long time.
Go test drive one (the Sonata not the ship) and see if you like it.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to see them this week, I'll do some
research and hopefully find a good product at a good price. By the way,
as for Resale value it seems only Toyota stays high, but they crept out
of my price range.. Is Kia comparable to the Hyundai??

I purchased a 2003 Hyundai Accent and so far have found the car
very good. I think it is a very good value for the money.

the local Hyundai dealer they told me they are where Honda was 10 years ago.
(which makes sense, start out with cheap good cars, and then let the value
rise.
I would have to say Kia's are still too new out here, in Canada anyway,
don't know how long they have been around in the US, plus I am never driven
one, and don't really intend to with the letters KIA standing for KILLED IN
ACTION!

Hyndai is a Korean company that participates in many types of
business. Here is a link to their main corporate site:
http://www.hyundaicorp.com/
I own a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon and I love it. It will not be the last
Hyundai I own.

Kia has been acquired by Hyundai after a financial crisis it had (like other
corean maker such as Daewoo..)
IMHO Kia try to differentiate fro Hyundai pointing to cars more stilish,
while Hyundai is more sporty; anyway mechanical parts are Hyundai and new
features in mechanisc come in Hyundai models and only after go to Kia. To
see an example.. go and look to Hyundai Sonata and Kia Magentis, or to XG350
and Opirus...

Hyundai Motor Company has been spun off from the Hyundai Group years ago, so
it's not part of the conglomerate.

No, it was not a merger; Hyundai Motor Company has a controlling stake in Kia
Motors Corporation, about 30%.

Re: Background Of This Car Manufacturer??
How good are Hyundais? Lets just say in the past 10 years I've
boughten 7 of them
1992 Elantra - Used Still have
1992 Elantra - Used Still have
1994 Excel - Traded for
1995 Scoupe - Traded for
2001 Elantra GLS- Still have
1997 Sonata - Traded for
2001 XG300 - Due to unemplyment had to let go
So from this list you can see I'm really partial to the Elantras

Re: Background Of This Car Manufacturer?? (merger..)
Actually they own 51% , 30% doesn't get anyone control of anything .
As for comparing Kias to Hyundais , I would say Hyjndai is a better
car espacially when it comes to the Elantra vs Spectra , my 01 Elantra
is an overall smoother driving car as compared to my wife's 03 Spectra
..
