Has anyone noticed in the latest Amsoil Action News that on page 7 of
the new price list that they now include Mitsubishi and Hyundai SP-III
in the performance specifications of their ATF?

Anyone tried it yet? I think I will when my change interval comes due.

I'm highly suspicious of any fluid claiming to meet eleventy-seven
different specifications. Different viscosity and friction are specified
for different fluids. That's why I don't use my employer's bulk fluid in
Hyundai (or anything else unless they specifically instruct me that I
must). I just don't believe the spec sheet can possibly be accurate.

I kinda wonder about that myself. They did reverse engineer the
Allison/Castrol Transynd fluid for the Allison TES-295. However, it
seems like they just added SP-III to the label of the Synthetic
Universal tranny fluid.

Do you have any idea what makes SP-III so different? I would like to try
the Amsoil product to see if it feels any different, however, I don't
want to trash my automatic. I do like the way it shifts as it is and
don't have a problem buying my SP-III from a dealer or even having the
job done at a Hyundai dealer - but someone has to try it! It seems like
all I ever hear on the subject of the auto tranny and SP-III is people
mouthing what the service department has told them.

SPIII is a proprietary Mitsubishi-designed fluid. I have pretty much no
chance of getting the information I need from Hyundai. Most of this stuff
is a closely guarded secret for financial/legal reasons.

And, since the official Hyundai requirement is nothing but SPIII, I sure
wouldn't want to put something else in my Hyundai trannie. Paying to
replace a tranny is no fun.
