98 Sonata ATF Fluid?
This question may have been asked before, so if it has, please forgive
me; I did a quick search of previous messages and didn't find what I
was looking for, but I may not have used the correct search terms.
I have searched the Hyundai USA site and cannot find which type of
auto transaxle fluid should be used in our 98 Sonata 4 cyl. There, I
find a couple of references to "ATF" but, since there are at least 3
types of ATF, I don't know which one should I use?
I checked our owner's manual and it tells me I should use SP-II but
that type is unknown to the auto supply stores I frequent. I do not
want to buy it from our local dealer ... they want 3 times as much for
ATF as my local auto parts shops.
Thanks for your advice.

Re: 98 Sonata ATF Fluid?
I believe the SP II & SP III are mitsubishi fluid numbers, which is not
suprising for Hyundai.
In many cases, a synthetic works. check the pages below.

Let me be real blunt here Lee Sun. If you want to cut corners, fine. But
find someway of doing it other than with your transmission fluid. Use the
stuff your dealer is selling for 3 prices. It's cheaper than having to have
your transmission worked on due to the wrong fluid being used.
