2006 SONATA 3.3L PCM REPROGRAMMING
I have a 2006 Sonata that was made in August, 2005. I've noticed that there
is supposed to be a PCM update that seems to apply to my vehicle. The TSB
says "From the beginning VIN of 2006 Sonata production ~October 20, 2005"
which my vehicle falls into. I bought the car last december, and there's no
indication that the update was done. The dealer says that my VIN isn't
listed as having it done, and they say it's not listed as being part of
campaign T15. Is there a way to verify what Flash is currently in the PCM,
as the affected releases are listed in the TSB. Why would my car appear to
be needing the update based on the info in the TSB, but not be eligible
according to the online system?

The dealer can check with the scan tool to see what software version you
have.
As to why it would be in the build range, not have had the campaign
completed, and not have the campaign open, I really cannot supply an
answer. All I can say is that I've seen some Hyundai cars (although not
your model) that fell into other campaign specifications yet had a status
like yours. I was able to perform the repairs under warranty because the
vehicles were presented to the service department with a legitimate
concern that the recall was intended to remedy.
My suggestion would be to call Hyundai customer assistance and query them
about it. Trying to resolve this through the dealer will probably result
mostly in a headache. On the other hand, if you have a customer
assistance case open and Hyundai says they'll pay the dealer to check the
PCM version (and reprogram if necessary), the dealer will probably be
happy to do it. The problem with trying to address through the dealer
first is that they'll have trouble getting Hyundai to reimburse them, so
they won't want to do it for free for you.

Thanks for the answer. My experience with the car has been great - a few
minor problems (accessory power outlet dead, headlight alignment, bad tire
from the factory, and most recently, an open oil pressure switch) - so good
in fact that I bought a 2007 to replace my gas eating Town&Country. In ALL
cases, the major problem with getting the issues resolved was the dealer.
And, I've really got no choice of dealer for service....
They couldn't get the replacement power outlet, they stripped the adjuster
on the headlights while adjusting them to a certain mortar line on a
concrete block wall, they couldn't figure out that there was a bad tire
making the car shake and pull (yes, I know that Hyundai doesn't warrant
tires, but because I noticed the vibration on the test of the car BEFORE I
bought it, and the salesman said they would balance, fix replace, etc. if it
was more than a temporary flat spot from sitting on the lot, the dealer
accepted responsibility for the tire issue, but they just blew me off
afterwards). The oil pressure switch showed an equal level of incompetence
on their part. I changed the oil, and watched for the oil pressure light to
go out after I started it.(I've always looked for that) It didn't come on
first, so I eventually diagnosed it to be the switch. Center in of switch to
ground - open. Ground pin in connector, light comes on. Pretty simple. I
went to the dealer, and had them look at it. They needed to order the part.
Came back to dealer after they said the part was in, and it turns out that
they ordered part of the harness, but not the switch itself. They said that
they initially thought the switch was ok, and that the harness was what was
needed. Pretty comical since I told them on the first pass that the light
comes on when the pin in the connector is grounded, and that the switch
showed open always.
Now, on the 2007, I've got a problem with the driver's seat since I picked
up the car. It's loose on the track to the point that it you take hold of
the back of the seat near the headrest, and try to move it back and forth,
the entire seat floats freely - the back and the actual seat kind of pivot,
so it's not like the lock isn't engaging - to the point that the top of the
seat moves about 3/4 of an inch. This is not like you are applying force...
It's just loose. While driving, when you stop and go in traffic, you feel
the seat move, and you get a squeak from under the seat. I took it in last
Saturday, and the writer and a tech said they were going to order the track,
because it was loose. I got a voice mail earlier this week where they left
me a message saying that all the 2007's do that. (my 2006 doesn't) I'm
heading in there to look for myself (I don't believe them), and hopefully
get them to see the light of day.

Take it back. Mine certainly does not do that. Yes, you can shake the
seatback slightly as in any car, but does not move the 3/4" you describe.
