I own a 2001 Elantra Silver Color.
Paints near the front bumper peels out like mad.. Everytime, I do a
carwash, it is getting stripped more. I spoke with the Hyundai Warranty
and they wont cover if it is more than 36K miles. Mine is just 37K.

Anybody having similar problems or ideas ??

When did the paint first start peeling? Was it at less than 36K miles?
Even if it's not, I wouldn't let them off the hook. I had a transmission
problem when my Excel was 4K miles out of warranty and after a bit of
persuasion, Hyundai covered 75% of the repair cost.

 

It peeled off when it was about 34K miles. Despite me telling this to the
hyundai customer care, they politely declined. I gave up then!

 

Don't give up. Demand satisfaction. If they do not stand behind try the
BBB and then small claims court.

If you give up that easily, you're never going to get anywhere. Keep
pushing and refuse to take no for an answer. Go as far up the chain of
command as necessary to get someone to authorize the repair.

off.I was shocked when I took it in and the dealer(Pittsburgh) looked at
it and said they would fix it and Hyundai will cover it.If I remember
right I had the car for about a year when I started finding these spots.My
sister has a 2003 Tibby (silver) and she is now finding spots where the
paint is comeing off.She took it to her dealer (Las Vegas area)and at the
first visit they said they would fix it,so an appointment was made.When
she went back to have the work done,they changed their mind and said they
would not fix it.So now comes a big hassle.Why did my dealer
(Bowser-Pittsburgh) do the right thing and took care of my paint problem
and this other dealer does not want to discuss it any further?I'd be
curious to what others have to say about this.

 

And another thing that rubs me the wrong way is Hyundais' excuse that the
paint problems are from bird do do.This seems to be the first reason given
when a paint problem arises.I know bird stuff is no friend of paint,but it
seems to be the standard first excuse given.Many have heard it when a
paint problem starts.Was there a inter-office memo about what to blame the
paint problem on first?These paint problems on the Hyundais are not
anything new.I've read about them in other Hyundai sites starting back in
2001.I've personally been connected with two of them,both silver.I could
be totally wrong,but I think there was/is something wrong with the way
Hyundai did/does paints cars or with the paint itself.Luckily my paint was
taken care of by my dealer,no complaints.My sister and others all got at
first the bird story,now for them,the real do do begins.

okay..so did you ask her why they refused to fix it?

Bird droppings has a very high concentration of uric acid and it will
damage the paint surface if not wiped clean promptly.

There's no paint or coatings out there that can withstand the chemical
attack of uric acid.
