In reading the posts about changing the "front" pads,I have a couple
questions.
1.-Do I just remove 1 of the bolts?
2.-The peg spanner tool is for the rears?
3.-What is the size of the bolt that's removed?
4.-Generally speaking,if I changed pads on American made
cars before,I should be able to change them on
a Hyundai Elantra?
5.-I can push the pistons back in using the C clamp method?

Sorry for all the questions, but the dealers price for
just changeing pads is bizarre.But one of those things I've learned as I
grow old is sometimes it's just worth paying the price to have it done
right the first time.I've changed
many a pads before and what the dealer wants to charge just makes me want
to do it myself.Thank you for your help,I
sure do appreciate it.

 

1. Yep, just the lower bolt holding the caliper to the caliper bracket.

2. No, you don't need a spanner for the front.

3. It'll be a 12mm bolt head.

4. I'm confident you'll figure this out. Depending on the models you've
worked on before, it may or may not be similar.

5. A c-clamp works fine.

Thanks for clarifying this. Do all rear calipers need a spanner, or just
ABS calipers?

 

It depends on year and model, not ABS. For example, current generation
Sonatas and XG's don't have the parking brake built into the caliper and
don't need the spanner, but the current elantra does. I seem to recall,
however, that some older sonatas required the spanner.
