2001 door power door lock dont work
Hi I have an 01 Elantra and all the door locks stopped working. The
fuse is good and my next thought would be the driver door switch.
Manually moving the inside lock does not work also. As I said my next
thought would be the door switch but I am confused. Looking at the
Haynes manual it shows the left door actuator as a complete unit
containing switches and a relay as well as some type of circuit. Is
that the case? if so where is it located door, dash etc. The maker of
the keyless entry system I purchased has a list of wire color codes
and it indicates there is some module behind the ash tray that
controls the lock unlock function.
I also figured that since I will be working on it why don't I just
purchase a keyless entry system . Now looking back at the manual I see
what looks like to me is a passive left door actuator only type system
( no actuator motor like the other 3 door ) if that's the case I guess
I will have to send the unit back. I just wouldn't make sense to open
3 doors (grin)
Any guidance as to where things are located would be great as well as
any ideas as to what might have gone wrong.
Thanks

You sure do come up with the most unusual problems. My question - if the
door lock does not work (lock/unlock) manually, why in the hell would you be
looking at electrical things? Think, guy... think.

For clarification manually opening and closing the interior lock on
the driver side also activated the other door locks, this is not
happening now. Back to some electrical component.

This is a well known problem with Elantra of that vintage,
is connected with the wiring harness going through the door.
Take the fuse out and just manually open and close all
the doors. that was my solution for this problem.
The dealer refused to do the fix because we were out of
the warranty period by a few days, but still well under
the milaeage. this has condtioned me into thinking
of some other make for my next car purchase.

Funny, that is how I got from a Buick to a Sonata. Over miles, under time,
no help for a non-moving part failure.
Since I pass the Buick dealership at least twice a day, I do get some
satisfaction by waving to the salesman if he is out there.

Yeah I did see the TSB on the corrosion of the connectors in the
doors.

yes. I know the feeling, the trouble is the Elantra has been such
a good car for me, so will probably stay with it.

Check your power lock fuse. Often, one of the actuators shorts. Of
course, it could also be the wiring corrosion mentioned above.
