2000 Sonata - washer fluid pump shot
Well it finally went below freezing a few nights back and I still had
some summer washer fluid in the reservoir. My guess was that it froze up
and that's why my pump wasn't spritzing properly. But it's had plenty of
time to thaw and I've also poured some fluid that's good for -40 C, and
it's still not working.
Are these pumps known to be a little bit prone to malfunction?
Any tips?
I'm guessing I'll need a new pump. Any idea how much it will cost to
replace, incl labour?
TIA

my tip be to replace the pump, if it froze its shot cause of the expansion
when the fluid froze...
not really the cars fault =)

Well that's what I figure too.
> not really the cars fault =)
Well I wasn't really implying that it was. You'd think it would be a
little bit more robust than that though.
Also, the washer fluid reservoir has this weird piece of rectangular red
colored something-or-other (foam? wood?) at the lowest part of the
visible part of the neck of the tank. Is this normal?
I figured it was just a floating valve of some sort, like the shut off
valve in a home humidifier, but I've never seen anything like it before
in a washer fluid reservoir on any other car.

Re: 2000 Sonata - washer fluid pump shot
i think that might be something for a low fluid warning switch that liights
on your dash....
im not sure, but i think they have them....
as for robust, well i find most things tend to go prematurely on hyundais.
we bought our accent used, 2 yr lease return.
and have maaaaaaaaany things replaced.
anti sway bushings, twice, ball joints , clutch fork and ball, input shaft
berrings, oil seal on front wheels, wheel bearrings, neutral safety
switch, drivers side window track, wiper motor, alternator, wiper transmission
now making noise.
not again hyundai thats for sure.
worst of all is the cars babied, all proper maitenance done by dealer
etc....
one thing though, the engine in 100% bullet proof. never to this day have
ever added oil or rad fluid. =)
knock on wood... =) hope i diddnt jynx myself :P
also, the input shaft berrings are making noise since yr after the repair
(gave up trying to get fixed again), last few months the clutch is squeeking
just like before.
seems things dont stay fixed for long...
i been driving hyundais since my 1st car a 1985 pony.
i miss that cars simplicity. wish theyd bring it back....

Re: 2000 Sonata - washer fluid pump shot
Ignore this thread.
I'm just an idiot. I just forgot how the damn washer pump works. I'd
been pressing on the little button rather than pulling on the arm. It
works fine. I'm losing my marbles, that's all.

Don't feel bad. I made the same mistake. Guess I should have read the
manual. I just assumed my Hyundai would be similar to every other car I
have ever driven....
