I have a 2000 Elantra with the "Check Engine" light on solid. It's come
on a few times in the past, but always goes away after a day or two.
Thought at first it might be due to a loose gas cap, but after a few
times of it coming on, we bought a new cap and it still comes on.

Took it to Autozone and they pulled the following codes:

0713 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit high input
P1624 see service manual

I checked http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/ but couldn't find these
codes mentioned. I have 59,700 miles on the car and I want to get this
checked out in case it's under warranty. Can anyone with a service
manual look these up for me and/or give me any advice on what might be
the problem? Thanks

In the very left front corner of the car, there's a connector going to the
transmission fluid temperature sensor on the transmission case. I've seen
the sensors fail or the wires break right at the connector. Unless
there's physical damage, I would expect this would be covered by the 5/60
bumper to bumper warranty.

 

Would I get at this connector from the engine compartment or from the
underside of the car?

It's probably easiest to get to and see well from the underside by removing
the under trans splash shield.

If I recall correctly, you can see it by looking down just beside where
the dipstick tube goes into the trans. It's all the way in the front and
left (driver's side) of the trans case. You probably can't tell much from
this view, however.

thanks for the help. We took it in today, they replaced the sensor, and
are replacing the fuel pressure regulator as well since it was leaking.
all covered under warranty! (200 miles left) Plus, they have to wait
a few days for the regulator to come in so they gave us a 2004 Santa Fe
as a loaner! Leather, sunroof, 6-disc changer. it's sweet. now I want
one! Thanks again.
