Ok, every now and then the 4WS Light remains on long after I have started my 1992 Honda Prelude Si-VTEC. The 4WS does not function when it is on and I cannot afford to get it fixed right now. Am I doing any damage by driving the car with the 4WS not functioning?

Yes and no. When the 4WS system discovers a fault, it immediately shuts down and goes into a "default" mode while illuminating the 4WS light. Default mode basically assumes the roll of a conventional steering car, by only using the front wheels to steer. However, if a problem in the 4WS system is not allowing the rear wheels to remain in a neutral-toe position while shut down, you could be quickly wearing out your rear tires and risking losing control of the car if you should have to make a drastic maneuver. Since you're low on money, make a visual inspection of the rear wheels while standing back from the car with the front wheels pointed straight. If the rear wheels appear normal and straight with the car, then you should be okay. Also check both rear tires for any unusual wear. If all checks out, you should be okay to drive the car until you can afford to fix it.
