Winter Road Trip
I am planning a round trip to a ski resort in Dec/Jan. The drive is 600
miles, 500 of which are on good roads, at altitudes of 1500ft or lower. The
last 100 miles or so are in the mountains.
What combination of tires and/or chains should I use for the trip? The car
is FWD currently wearing M+S tires on alloy wheels.

I would consider buying chains in case you need them. I would not buy snow
tires unless you have lots of snow where you live. It would be a waste of
money to buy snow tire just for your trips to the ski resort.
