Just how much of the stuff do you go through in a winter?
None of it damages hoses and pumps.

If and when the temperature is above 32 deg F, I dilute it with water 1:1
ratio (50% water and 50% washer fluid) to stretch it.

If you're paying only $2.00 a gallon for the windshield washer fluid,
you're not buying a very high quality product.

All I've ever done for 25 years has been to buy the cheapest I can find
regardless of brand. It goes on sale regularly at numerous places,
sometimes for as low as 99¢.
No matter where I buy it, it all works exactly the same. (Provided you're
buying the same temperature rating, that is...)

This site prices methanol at about $17 a gallon (or about
$53 for a five gallon container) before shipping and
handling costs. One-tenth a gallon is needed to make a
gallon of windshield washer. So at best, one is going to
spend something more than a dollar a gallon going the
home-made route. Tack on that shipping charges are pretty
darn high these days.
This also assumes this company will ship liquids. That's
been a problem in the past. E.g. I know the usual online OEM
honda parts sites do not ship OEM coolant.

Actually, yeah, it is. Forgot about that.
In fact, we got dagged with that very problem years ago with my wife's
Toyota MR2. One year I left the bug wash in past Halloween. The pissers
froze up and wouldn't let go until I sucked out all the bug wash, replaced
it with blue -40F fluid, then ran the washers until the blue stuff
appeared.
I have never used bug wash since, even in the summer.
Maybe that's why they don't color-coordinate the stuff.

Actually, yeah, it is. Forgot about that.
