sound when change gear 1-2
I drive honda civic sedan 2001 (106,000 km). It is manual gear
(stick). these days i hear a strange noise only when i change the gear
from 1 to 2 and the sound like dropping a metal dish in the floor?? it
is hard to explain the sound but i guess dropping a metal dish and
hear the echo of that .. it is the same sound i hear?? what could case
this probelm??
I am going to do Service D for my honda (according to Honda manual) do
you think they should test that problem (i have feeling that this
problem is grear or clech problem)
Thanks alot.

Re: sound when change gear 1-2
There is only a couple of hopes of a simple and easy fix - ensuring the
lubricant in the gearbox is up to the proper level (not a typical check but
they can do it quickly and inexpensively while the car is in the shop), and
checking out the gearshift linkage. If you are hearing a sharp "clang"
(which seems to be what you are describing) it must be coming from outside
the gearbox... like the shift linkage. Sounds from inside the gearbox will
be muffled; clunks, grinding, heavy bangs....

Does it happen only at a certain RPM? You may have a loose heat shield
on the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter. That's the only thing I
can think of that would make a sound like that. It may be a combination
of things during the time you're shifting to 2nd that is just right to
cause it to resonate.

Yeah check the heat shields, thermal cycles crack the welds and they
come loose. You can weld them back, but it works ok to put a screw in to
stop the rattle.
