I recently bought a 2001 civic coupe (european model), and it has central
locking with remote control. But it 's a shame that I cannot "see" when the
doors lock. On my previous car (Accord) the indicators would blink twice
when locking, and once when unlocking. Now, if I'm not sure if I locked the
car, I have to get to the car and check the door handles. I also noticed
that both doors have to be closed to lock the car. So when I press the
close-button just a bit to soon, the doors do not lock.
Is there a way to add this blinking function? Anyone has experience with
that?

Wire the parking lights to the door lock motors. This should blink 'em.

Wire the parking lights to the door lock motors. This should blink 'em.

Yeah right, and when making a turn, my doors will open and close every
second 'cause the turn signals are connected to the door locks. :-)
However diodes could prevent this, I'm not sure if the wiring for the lock
motors can handle the current to light them up.
It's gonna be a bit more complicated than that, but I'm workig on an
electronic device to do the job.

You can do it easy enough with a relay.

Take the parking light wire near the switch and cut it. (check it's
polarity). Take the "switch side" and attach it to the normally closed
terminal on the relay (term 87a). Car side to "feeder" terminal on relay
(usually term 30). If polarity was "+", attach Normally open terminal (87)
to 12v, otherwise ground.

Attach terminal 85 to 12v and 86 to door lock wire.

Now, during normal operation, factory parking light signal passes through as
if relay wasn't there (cause it goes through the normally closed circuit).
When the door lock wire activates (goes to ground on Honda's), car side of
parking light wire goes "live" causing the lights to turn on briefly.

Door locking circuit is not strained as all it is powering (in addition to
it's normal duties) is small coil in relay, not lights.

Make sure to fuse all 12v connections with 6" of tap. Using a common 30a
fuse is fine here as all you are protecting against is a short.
