In my 1991 5-speed Civic, one must go under the car and remove the transmission
oil "fill bolt." The level is supposed to be right at the bottom of the fill
bolt hole.
I never check mine. I do change the transmission oil every 30k miles or 2 years,
whichever comes first, per the owner's manual maintenance schedule. I never
noticed a low level when draining.
My owner's manual also gives instructions for changing. It's very similar to
changing the engine oil.
Check your owner's manual. If it's not there or you don't have the owner's
manual, then a few online sites might help. Post back to ask as needed.
