Mobil 1 and aircraft engines really isn't news, but aircraft engines
are one thing, car engines are another. Apples and oranges.
I not worried, but thanks anyway.
BTW, be sure to let NASA and the military know, too. ;-)

My 2003 Civic recommends 10,000 mile oil change intervals. I didn't want to
do it with regular oil, so I'm going to do the 10,000 oil changes, but use
Royal Purple and K&N filter.

Might you transcribe the Owner's Manual verbatim regarding 10k miler oil
service intervals, please? What are the exceptions to that
recommendation?

Phil, my Accord manual says this:
"*U.S. Owners* - Follow the Maintenance schedule for Severe Conditions
if you drive your car MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions.
Driving less than 5 miles (8 km) per trip or, in freezing temperatures,
driving less than 10 miles (16 km) per trip.
Driving in extremely hot [over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees
Celsius)] conditions.
Extensive idling or long periods of stop-and-go driving, such as a taxi
or a commercial delivery vehicle.
Trailer-towing, driving with a roof rack, or driving in mountainous
conditions.
Driving on muddy, dusty, or deiced roads.
NOTE: If you only OCCASIONALLY drive under a "severe" condition, you
should follow the Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule.
*Canadian Owners* - Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Severe Conditions."
Reading this last, I note that the manufacturer recommends that a fellow
office worker, living here in Alabama, driving the same car under the
same conditions, should use a different maintenance schedule than I
because he's from Saskatchewan...
The Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule includes 10,000 mile oil
change intervals; the Severe, 5,000 miles.
RFT!!!
