Power steering replacement.
Honda Civic LX 1991
Automatic, 1.5
As today I actually took all the nuts and bolts off the car, the whole
steering thing is unplugged and unattached, but sliding it out or just
simply tryin to twisting it and slide it, is a pain in the neck!..
As far as I know to replace one is somehow complicated, just to take it off
and to reinstall it on the new one!..
Does anybody know how to slide it out (the wheel steering rod won't allow me
to take it out, it seems stocked inside the wheel steering hole), any other
bolts or specific part I need to unbolt?..
I unscrewed the bolts and nuts from the catalitic converter joint, where it
joints with the coupler towards the front of the engine!..
As tomorrow (sep 14) I'll try the impossible, even to take the steering unit
out in separate pieces if I can!..
If anybody knows how, re-post after this post of mine in the newsgroups!..

Hi it's me again!...
Just to let you know that the Power steering at least in civics (mine 91),
is a whole full pain in the neck to be changed by anyone who doesn't have
experience at all!..
It's a job for a mechanic!..
It took me about 10 hours to take the freaking steering unit, plus is not
like the manual says (taking this and that bolt, twist it out and done), I
had to unbolt soooooo many things to take of the carcass that holds the
whole unit!..
I had to remove these things:
1. Un-bolt and take out the carcass.
2. Un-attach the transmission mount.
3. Take the catalitic converter and front extension-joint down.
4. Practically unbolt most of the unit to see if it was possible to remove
the shaft that attaches to the wheel steering (ultimately I did and hammered
the shaft downwards and the pin went off-this helped me to take the unit
out, nothing else would.
5. Had to make the hole where the steering wheel pin goes thru, bigger.
6. Take the bolts off from the joints from some of the lower part where the
hub attaches to the carcass.
7. Take the stabilizer bar off.
And probably missing one or two steps!...
It's not worth the time as a "Do it yourself" kind of job!...
I'll suggest anyone else to take it to the mechanic, unless if you want to
have a really bad day and curse everybody while working on it, and probably
spending more money to pay someone to wreck the car (you cannot do it, cause
the ball joints are off the vehicle and steering system will be
dislocated)!...
I hope this helps anyone else who is thinking of changing the steering
unit!..
